Floating Bridge Brewing opens, Propolis Brewing is cool

Somewhere inside Poncha Springs, Colorado’s, Elevation Brewing, there’s a man they call “Christ.” (No, not that one, of course). In the halls of the shiny new building of Boulder’s Avery Brewing, a man is answering to the name “Meaty Bro.” These are a small sliver of some of the epic employee nicknames floating around your favorite breweries that you probably haven’t heard — until now.

Piper Corbett and Robert Horner have been working hard to create Propolis Brewing, a brewery that fills a fascinating niche. Many of the beers include foraged ingredients, some are barrel aged, some include wild yeast.

Seattle has another microbrewery. Floating Bridge Brewing is now open in Seattle’s University District at 722 NE 45th St.

Using historical data from three major beer competitions, two online beer rating websites, the results of an extensive online poll and countless ground truthing samples, the best breweries in America have been determined through a combination of beer judging experts, public opinion and math.

Twenty years ago, there were only five breweries in San Diego. Now there are 115. One of the originals, Coronado Brewing Company is still producing fantastic beer, including its 20th Anniversary Imperial IPA.

Tickets for Sept. 9-10 Cider Summit Seattle, which celebrates local, regional and international artisanal ciders and cidermakers, are now on sale.
