MONDAY PREFUNK: Doctor Strange and Jimmy Page and craft beer

MONDAY, JAN. 9 2017: South Sound events + craft beer …

Blue Mouse Theatre + Peaks and Pints = Doctor Strange and Jimmy Page

MARVEL’S SORCERER SUPREME

Doctor Strange Or, how we learned to stop worrying and love the Eye of Agamotto. Damn, it seems like just yesterday that the movie business was on pins and needles wondering if it could wring a halfway decent profit out of a second-tier superhero like Iron Man. Those of us who grew up on the comics don’t need as much convincing in that area; our main concern is how well the Master of the Mystic Arts can survive the transition from the globular pop art of Steve Ditko’s original drawings into a more modern Inception-by-way-of-Escher cinematic style. Trust the perfectly cast Benedict Cumberbatch to make it work. Catch Doctor Strange at 7 p.m. in the Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma’s Proctor District.

PREFUNK: Since Peaks and Pints loves music AND craft beer, we’d thought it would be fun to formally mix the two every Monday night. We’re calling the series SudsPop, asking breweries to supply music playlists and craft beer, as well as host activities such as trivia and games of skill. Pacific Brewing & Malting Co. grabbed the jukebox for the month of January, kicking off the series last Monday with a night of “Positive Vibrations” and a coloring contest. At 6 p.m., the downtown Tacoma brewery’s sales director Andy Kenser returns with a new theme, playlist, contest and, of course, a delicious keg of Pacific Brewing beer pouring from our Western red cedar tap log. Pacific Brewing & Malting Co. created a four-hour soundtrack based on the theme “Jimmy Page’s Birthday Party,” as the Led Zeppelin guitarist turns 73 today. Kenser will take you through guitarist Jimmy Page’s musical life, from the blues masters who influenced him, through his years with The Yardbirds and the span of 12 years and nine studio albums that was Led Zeppelin. Kenser will also host a trivia contest based on all things Jimmy Page. Pouring from our log will be the recently tweaked Pacific Brewing & Malting Co. Prairie Line IPA.
