SATURDAY, JAN. 28 2017: Tacoma events + craft beer …

Doyle’s Public House + Peaks and Pints = Cody Ray and the New Favorites and the Chicocabra

Tacoma Little Theatre and The Eleven Eleven = Wild Tacoma

GUITAR DRIVEN

In May 2014, Cody Ray Raymond and Jesse Turcotte formed Cody Ray and the New Favorites, each adding exceptional guitar skills, experience and huge hearts to the neo-soul/R&B funk-rock fusion group. Catch the guitar-driven, power-trio soul and blues explosion in Doyle’s Public House at 10 p.m.

PREFUNK: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s Beer Camp is the ultimate brewing experience. The Chico, California brewery invites beer industry folks and fans into its brewery for three days where Beer Campers inspect the bottling line at an arm’s reach; explore a freezer bigger than a house where hops are stacked to the ceiling; pedal across Sierra Nevada property on a 12-seater beer bike outfitted with fresh kegs of Celebration Ale; watch the research lab test batches; shovel hops; taste experimental batches; and, ultimately, brew their own beer on Sierra Nevada’s pilot brewing system with its head brewer, Abe Kabakoff. Peaks and Pints co-owner Ron Swarner was part of the 10-member Beer Camp #175 this past July, where he did all that and much more. His Sierra Nevada Beer Camp #175 Chicocabra Imperial Stout with aroma of Mexican hot chocolate and taste of intense cocoa will be tapped at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at Peaks and Pints, along with many other Sierra Nevada craft beers, including Beer Camp Golden IPA, Pale Ale, Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale and the recently released Sidecar Orange Pale Ale. IMPROV COMEDY

Formed by two sets of brothers, Michael and Christopher Harris, and Geoff and Edward Gibbs, Fools Play Improv began their journey at the Tacoma Little Theatre in 1994. A whole new generation of Fools, along with some familiar old friends, will be bringing 23 years of experience creating and building their own unique brand of improv back to the TLT stage at 10:30 p.m.

PREFUNK: Tacoma’s E9 Brewery took home five medals and a top designation from the Washington Beer Awards this past summer. The Tacoma restaurant and brewery won the award for mid-size brewery of the year. Now sitting on E9’s mantel are a silver medal for its Don of Time Pale Ale, a gold for its Friendship Brett, bronze for its Nectarberry, a silver for its Wild Tacoma Table Sour and a gold for its Rhubarb Wild. At 6 p.m., E9 heads to Hilltop Tacoma to hang at The Eleven Eleven, pour its beers and spin a couple records.
