TACOMA PREFUNK MAY 30 2017: Breakside India Golden Ale before Chris Evans and Witchburn …

PREFUNK: Originally released in 2013 as a limited draft only special collaboration with Ninkasi Brewing, Breakside Brewery’s India Golden Ale, or I.G.A., is a golden double IPA that’s light in body, lighter in color and HUGE in citrus flavor and aroma. I.G.A. showcases Mosaic and Eldorado hops. Mosaic gives the beer a bright mix of stonefruit and tropical flavors along with a big piney backbone. Eldorados are fruity and soften the finish. The Portland, Oregon brewery keeps the malt bill incredibly simple to allow the hops to take center stage in this elegant and beguiling beer, which pours from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

1 AND 6 P.M. THE SALESMAN: Writer-director Asghar Farhadi has quickly vaulted himself into the realm of today’s top filmmakers by drawing from the well of domestic disharmony. His 2011 film, A Separation, received an Oscar’s nod for best original screenplay and took home the trophy for Best Foreign Language Film. Farhadi’s latest, The Salesman, caught Oscars voters’ eyes again winning the category this year. The Salesman is a story about the aftermath of violence, but more crucially it reflects the seemingly universal urge of men to take action while women merely ask for their partner’s ear and emotional support. The Grand Cinema, Tacoma

7 P.M. GIFTED: Not every movie that gets made has to be about superpowers and galactic conflicts. Chris “Captain America” Evans has the right to focus on smaller, more grounded types of films — like Gifted, in which he plays a single dad whose life gets turned upside down when the world discovers that his 7-year-old daughter is a math whiz. SPOILER: She’s a mutant! Blue Mouse Theatre, Tacoma

9 P.M. WITCHBURN: “Bible stories, witches and whiskey.” Admit it. You’re a bit curious now. Well that’s just a sampling of the influences of Witchburn. Some might attend this show for the eye-candy of the women on the stage, some might prefer the heavy Southern guitar riffs, and some might just like a heavier brand of rock. One thing is for sure: the music of Witchburn is an enchanting combination of all three. Be prepared for passionate metal delivered with gritty energy and confident musical ability when Witchburn sets Jazzbones aflame with Deathbed Confessions, Armed for Apocalypse and Drug of Choice. Jazzbones, Tacoma
