TACOMA PREFUNK MONDAY, AUG. 14 2017: Stillwater On Fleek and This Is Spinal Tap

PREFUNK: Stillwater Artisanal On Fleek imperial stout can looks like it’s from the ’90s, and its playful design makes the beer can a signature artist Mike Van Hall piece. The packaging has florescent yellow, green and pink leopard spots, plus blue and black tiger stripes lining the can. It’s the kind of beer that Picasso might pour. The beer is dark, boozy and brewed with dark sugars and molasses, but also deceivingly drinkable for 13 percent ABV. Stillwater collaborated with Greensboro Bend, Vermont-based brewery Casita Cerveceria, and will be an ongoing release brewed at Two Roads Brewing Co. in Stratford, Connecticut. Enough chatter; drop by Peaks and Pints and pull it out of our cooler. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

5 P.M. PARKWAY RANDALL: Taking full advantage of the return to popularity of fruit beers, Ecliptic Brewing added its Carina Peach Sour Ale to its year-round release schedule. Taking full advantage of its fresh peach flavor, craft beernaut Sean Jackson will load Carina in his rocket tube and blast off with fresh ingredients. Parkway Tavern, Tacoma

6:45 P.M. THIS IS SPINAL TAP: Back when Spinal Tap, the subject of Rob Reiner’s classic mockumentary, actually toured, we harbored the belief that the bone-jarring cacophony of amplifiers turned up to 11 had scrambled the brains of metalheads. We truly believed they didn’t know that it wasn’t a real band and was, in fact, a bunch of actors, including Lenny (or was it Squiggy?) from Laverne and Shirley. The years have passed, and under the tutelage of the unrepentant metal-loving Peaks and Pints’ kitchenheads, we’ve developed a grudging respect for the genre and its proponents. We now realize they got the joke and didn’t care, because although the band was a gag, the music was not. You certainly can’t claim that Tap’s “Big Bottom” is any more implausible a song than Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls.” This Is Spinal Tap screens at The Grand Cinema tonight. The Grand Cinema, Tacoma

7 P.M. CARS 3: The third installment in Pixar’s automotive franchise includes never-before-heard dialogue by the late Paul Newman. And that’s great news if you’ve ever wanted to hear him say, “This is going straight to video, right?” Ha ha ha we kid. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast cars, the legendary Lighting McQueen finds himself pushed out of the sport that he loves. Hoping to get back in the game, he turns to Cruz Ramirez, an eager young technician who has her own plans for winning. Blue Mouse Theatre, Tacoma
