TACOMA PREFUNK MONDAY, JULY 17 2017: Tieton Cider Works and E9 Puppies Vs. Kittens Vs. Sean Jackson

PREFUNK: In 2008, Craig Campbell and his wife, Sharon, began experimenting with making cider from dessert apples grown in their 400-acre commercial fruit orchards. Despite naysayers who warned that cider apples required a maritime climate, Craig also planted a two-acre test orchard with 25 varieties of cider apples. Today, their two-acre experiment expanded into Cider View, a 30-acre “high-density” cider orchard. In their commercial cidery, Tieton Cider Works, they blend American heritage, English and French cider varietals with dessert apples to capture the best of what each variety brings to the bottle: sweetness, acidity, tannin and aroma. The results are ciders with body and a depth of finish, including their Wild Washington Apple Cider and semi-dry Apricot Cider, both pouring from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. 7 P.M. CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: “Change is coming” could be our favorite tagline of the last five years. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Adventure, an adaptation of the eight-volume kids book series, is the culmination of 20 years’ worth of negotiations between author Dav Pilkey and DreamWorks featuring best bros George and Harold, who first bonded in first grade over the inherent hilarity of a planet named Uranus, battle their egg-shaped principal. When a plastic hypno-ring places the principal in their powers, George and Harold convince him that he’s the underwear-clad superhero from their comic books, while the appearance of a mysterious evil scientist threatens their very way of life.
