MORNING FOAM FOR MONDAY, OCT. 3 2016: A seven-taster flight of craft beer and cider news, from the fluffy head all the way to the bottom mission. …

Patagonia Provisions, the sustainable food offshoot of Patagonia, the outdoor clothing company, has a beer. Created in partnership with Hopsworks Urban Brewery, or HUB, of Portland, Ore., Long Root Ale is described in a media release as “a Northwest-style pale ale” made from ingredients that include Kernza. The beer will be sold in 16-ounce cans at Whole Foods Market sites in California, Oregon and Washington. It will be on draft at select Whole Foods Market bar-restaurants, at both Hopworks locations in Portland and at the MiiR flagship store in Seattle.

Well, perhaps we all should’ve seen this coming. Vice has finally taken its reputation for debauchery and alcohol-fuelled adventure full circle with the launch of its very own beer, Old Blue Last.

Jim Koch, founder and chairman of Boston Beer Company and the brewer of Sam Adams beer reflects on his personal journey in the latest edition of Fortune Unfiltered, a journey that included dropping out of Harvard (twice), becoming an Outward Bound guide, and eventually spurring a revolution in the American beer industry.

North Portland beer bar Saraveza hosts its 4th annual Peche Fest Saturday, Oct 8. With 25 rare beers, including a hard cider, the taplist is as fuzzy and juicy as ever and represents the best of what Oregon has to offer with great beers from Washington and Colorado rounding out the lineup.

The Fort George fall/winter seasonal Magnanimous IPA returns this week. Reaching homes and pubs throughout the Northwest, this seasonal beer brewed with Grand Fir trimmings. The process begins in May when the Christmas trees at Earth & Sky Farm in Oregon City show their new, soft green growth. And it’s also when Tim Ensign and Jana Daisy-Ensign invite everyone out to the farm to harvest the fir for this winter collaboration with Fort George.

Goose Island’s Four Star Pils holds its own with other well-made pilsners from around the world. It has a crisp body, nice biscuity pale malt flavor and floral-grassy hop flavors, with these flavors also present in the aroma.

Good evening, Mr. Phelps. There are five thirsty people trapped in a boring party. They are all important friends and without your assistance, they will wither and fade from existence (or, at least, be very bored and sad). Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to bring them the libations they desire. Inside The Beer Briefcase, you will find six bottles of liquid happiness. Protect it at all costs, infiltrate the party, and satiate your friends. And the sixth bottle? Well, that’s for you — after you’ve accomplished your mission!
