THURSDAY, JUNE 9 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …

Dixie Highway + North 47 Brewing = Elated Slug
Working Class Theater Northwest + Silver City Brewery = Big Daddy

AMERICANA

Dixie Highway. Remember those words. You may already know them, but in a year you’ll know them better. At the bluegrass family picnic, Dixie Highway is the loud and brash kid brother, the noisy upstart from down south who would just as soon stand on your sandwich and scream into your face as slink quietly back from whence he came — deep in the woods, behind the still. The core of the band is banjoist Forest Beutel and fiddler Julie Campbell, both members of Tacoma bluegrass band Barleywine Revue. Dixie Highway will rip through Americana blues with Portland’s The Sam Densmore Band and Tacoma’s honky-tonk heartthrobs The Nalley Valley All-Stars at 8 p.m. in The Valley.
PREFUNK: We all have that friend. You know the one: a few craft beer pints in suddenly every sentence starts with the all-condescending, “actually…” followed by some obscure nugget of knowledge most of us either never knew or would never remember. The kind of friend who makes the perfect asset to any trivia team. Hey, maybe you are that friend. We’re not here to judge. We’re here to tell you North 47 Brewing Co. at Browns Point hosts trivia at 7 p.m. Study up on your world/territory flags, do some math, and get ready to drink some Elated Slug ESB.

SLUTS

Everybody wants a piece of Stephanie Schwartz. Her son’s demanding nuggets, her boyfriend wants her to wax and her best friend’s taking her to a stripping class. Now there’s a rapist on Sutton Drive, an obscene caller invading her home and a portal to hell beneath her sofa. How far must she go to make it all stop? And how far is too far? Working Class Theater Northwest stages Joshua Conkel’s heart-breaking, taboo-busting black comedy The Sluts of Sutton Drive at 8 p.m. in The Ballroom at 733 Commerce in downtown Tacoma.
PREFUNK: As you know Silver City Brewery is spending the year celebrating its 20th anniversary, hosting parties and releasing vintage throwback recipes, fan favorites and recipes of the future, yet still inspired by the brewery’s past such as Big Daddy’s ESB. Today at noon, Silver City will release Big Daddy’s ESB on draft. The Extra Special Bitter utilizes British malt and Northwest Cascade hops from Yakima to create a balance of body and bitterness.
