BROKEN LIZARD

If you were a college student at any point in the 2000s — or if you just like comedy that follows in the footsteps of the National Lampoon greats — Broken Lizard is almost a household name. The team — the five Broken Lizard guys share screen-writing, acting, and production credits for their movies — is best known for Super Troopers, Club Dread (for better or worse), and Beerfest. Two of the members, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme regularly perform two-man stand-up and storytelling shows, and will be in Tacoma for three nights at the Tacoma Comedy Club beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.

PREFUNK: How did you celebrate your 21st birthday? Some people enjoy the casual beer at Peaks and Pints, some like to go to a shot bar and get Lohan-drunk. Some like to spread beer out throughout the day, some like to cram it all in at midnight. Some people don’t drink at all. You can do anything you want other than rent a car, book a cruise, run for POTUS, or commit a crime. In celebration of the opening day of Seattle Beer Week, Peaks and Pints will host a 21st Birthday Party for our favorite folks turning 21 this year — craft breweries. Thursday, May 4, we’ll host a 21st birthday party for Stone Brewing Company, Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Ballast Point Brewing Company, Silver City Brewery, Pelican Brewing Company, Victory Brewing Company, Schmaltz Brewing Company, Bear Republic Brewing and Scuttlebutt Brewing Company In addition to pouring these breweries’ craft beer from our Western red cedar tap log, we’ll host 21 Run-ish activities such as beer pong and shot glasses. Live it up. Have fun. They’re 21 now.

SUPER FUNNY

Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Show has returned to downtown Tacoma. The Lacey comedian organized a super funny collection of super comedians weekly at the Varsity Grill. Jackson’s show disappeared when the Varsity converted to country bar Steel Creek. It was a super sad day. Jackson is a super funny comic himself, so much so that he reigned supreme at the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition won previously by Mark Curry and Jamie Foxx. Jackson has found a home for his super comedy show, hosting comedians at Keys On Main dueling-piano bar. Check it out at 8 p.m.

PREFUNK: Bale Breaker Brewing Co. brewed a super dank IPA as the official Seattle Beer Week beer. North End Social Club will be tapping the first keg in Tacoma at 6 p.m. Topcutter IPA, Bottomcutter IIPA and Pale 41 will also be on tap. Plenty of goodies will be given away too.

SHAKESPEAREAN LAUREL AND HARDY

Acclaimed as a modern comedic masterpiece, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is the fabulously inventive tale of Hamlet as told from the worm’s-eye view of the bewildered Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters in Shakespeare’s play. In Tom Stoppard’s best-known work, this Shakespearean Laurel and Hardy finally get a chance to take the lead role, but do so in a world where echoes of Waiting for Godot resound, where reality and illusion intermix, and where fate leads our two heroes to a tragic but inevitable end. Catch the play at 8 p.m. in the Lakewood Playhouse.

PREFUNK: Once again E9 Brewery and Holy Mountain Brewing Co. collaborated to make another batch of 5 of Swords IPA, which will be tapped at Engine House No. 9 at 5 p.m. A collaboration shirt will be available for purchase.
