Olympia Film Society + Fish tale Brewpub = Cranky guy and happy guy

MUSIC TO MY BEERS

As you know exhibits “A Revolution You Can Dance To: Indie Music in the Northwest” and “Steins, Vines & Grinds: Washington’s Story of Beer, Wine, and Coffee” are on display at the Washington State History Museum through April 23. They’re awesome. At 7 p.m., Three Magnets Brewing Co. will walk into the museum with craft beer your can drink to music. Titled “Music to my Beers,” the downtown Olympia brewery will celebrate the state’s beer history and Olympia’s notable indie music scene with craft beers named after, and brewed by, key players in Olympia’s indie music scene, such as band 764-HERO, prolific graphic artist Art Chantry, YoYo Records, and Diana Arens, former producer of the radio show Free Things Are Cool at KAOS Olympia Community Radio and audio engineer at Dub Narcotic and YoYo Records. Tonight’s festivities at the History Museum include tastings of the new craft brews, music from the artists that inspired them, games and activities, and a commemorative tasting glass.

PREFUNK: Peaks and Pints will celebrate Wingman Brewer’s retooled Pockets Aces Double IPA release at a Lodge Meeting tonight. Eureka and Denali hops are the new pilots for this double IPA for tropical and citrus fruit flavors with an extra resinous bonus. Peaks and Pints will also pour other Wingman brews from our Western red cedar tap log, including the Peanut Butter Cup P-51 Porter, an Experimental IPA and, of course, the Perfect Proctor Porter brewed with the Peaks and Pints’ staff. We’ll also be hosting a paper airplane contest with prizes for flight patterns and design.

GET OFF MY LAWN!

If you’re looking for something to take your mind off things, you might find some uplift in Hannes Holm’s Swedish dramedy, A Man Called Ove, screening at 9 p.m. in the Capitol Theater. Ove (Rolf Lassgård) is a retired 59-year-old widower who spends his day in a rigid routine. He checks the signs and garage locks in his housing development. Yells at his neighbors for minor infractions. Visits the grave of his recently deceased wife, Sonja. Rails against the assorted bureaucrats who ruin everything. Ove is just generally content to be generally miserable. Or not. … The film offers the familiar set-up, execution (here come some cute kids!) and feel-good resolution of many similar works about cranky people who need to lighten up. Yet none of the film’s expected beats should detract from one’s enjoyment.

PREFUNK: Fish Tale Brewpub, Fish Brewing’s house of tasty food and craft beer, hosts monthly brewers’ nights. From 6-8 p.m., No-Li Brewhouse taps its craft beers, including Born and Raised IPA, with happy-go-lucky rep Mike Lay giving bear hugs and raffling off swag.
