Kali and hi Ancestors In Training perform at The Valley tonight.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1 2017: South Sound events + craft beer …

The Valley + Peaks and Pints = Family

Tacoma Comedy Club + Parkway Tavern = Trickster

Broadway Center + Pint Defiance = Silver and Soo

SO STREET

Kali Stoddard-Imari and his Ancestors In Training is a Boston-based band comprised of street musicians and open mic junkies with a passion for meeting new people and playing as much good music as possible. The body and soul moving music that emanates from the folk pop, rhythm and rock band shares stories of compassion, triumph, family and fun with hints of roots rock, blues, reggae fusion and soul. Catch them with Josh Eacrett and Jordyn Cooper at 8 p.m. in The Valley.

PREFUNK: It’s our guess the Urban Family Brewing folks take break walks around the Magnolia neighborhood loop, stopping on the southwest side to stare off into the Pacific Ocean. Those moments of Zen must be the inspiration for the Seattle Magnolia neighborhood brewery’s decision to brew a mango sour. The French and Belgian farmhouse-forward thinkers have a real tropical treat in their Mangifera — a lovely balance of mango and Citra hops. Sweet and tart and tasty! Drop by Peaks and Pints and have a tulip glass or two poured from our Western Cedar tap log.

SO FUNNY

Held every Wednesday, the Tacoma Comedy Club Open Mic continues to be a viable launching pad for artists looking to break into the comedy scene. With so many hopefuls in the state, it’s a huge opportunity for a beginner to perform on the same stage that’s typically reserved for established acts. Check it out at 8 p.m.

PREFUNK: Started in spring 2009, Black Raven Brewing Company now seems to be the rock star at every local beer festival. Its line is always one of the longest, its kegs often tapped out early and often. Its specialty brews are often sold out early. The Black Raven crew will show up with so much beer at the Parkway Tavern that it could easily be called the Black Raven Festival. The Parkway hosts a two-day “Black Raven Ground Hog’s Day Night,” meaning Black Raven will bring Feather Weather, Trickster, Second Sight, Nothing but Flowers and Three Sundays Tripel both days, but add Grandfather Raven, Old Birdbrain Barleywine and Splinters Scotch Ale tonight and Pour Les Oiseaux, Raven De Brett and Corvus Frambiscus tomorrow night. Night two includes a fundraiser for Stadium High School Band Boosters.

SO SOO

South Korea’s greatest vocalist, Kim Bum Soo, will perform at 7 p.m. in the Pantages Theater. He is the first South Korean singer to enter the Billboard Chart Top 100 and widely known as the best male vocalist in South Korea.

PREFUNK: Silver City Brewery will take time off from what seems to be releasing a new beer a day to hang out all day at Pint Defiance. Silver City sales executive/magician Jordan Marsh will be onsite with Belgian-style Sour Scotch Ale, Bourbon Barrel Aged Time Traveller Imperial Stout, Copper Mtn. Maibock and Nice Day IPA.
