6-Pack of Things To Do: Tuesday September 1 2020
Since no one gets out of this world alive — though most of us have a ways to go before we go for good — there’s no time to waste with our feet up and our hair in curlers. We really need to get busy. We need Peaks & Pints’ 6-Pack of Things To Do.
HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?: Launch your career as an apiologist. Visit Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s pollinator garden near the Kids’ Zone slide to see how beautiful and vibrant a pollinator garden can be. The Zoo’s pollinator garden includes many types of perennial, drought tolerant, and native flowering plants. Learn about bees. Discover how to make your own pollinator garden at home. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, $14-$18, all tickets must be bought as timed online tickets, photo courtesy of pdza.org
BEER FLIGHT: Polish your clogs, tighten your lederhosen, strap on your mask, and get ready to join the city of Tacoma six feet apart for Peaks and Pints: Behind Fresh Oktoberfest, a 30-day celebration of fresh hop and Oktoberfest beers on tap and in the cooler for fresh hometoberfests. Das right! The pandemic changed our fourth annual mesh-up of fresh hop beers and Oktoberfest biers — from a giant hall party to a crowler-and-can lederhomestead. Today through Sept. 30, Peaks & Pints will offer bright, fresh-hop beers AND clean, hearty Oktoberfest-style lagers on tap and in the cooler. We kick off the month with Two Beers Fresh Hop, Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, and Pelican Brewing Bronze God on draft, plus other Oktoberfest biers in our cooler. Today, let’s feature the Oktoberfest biers with our to-go flight, Peaks and Pints: Behind Fresh Oktoberfest: Lagers. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Peaks & Pints, 3816 N. 26th St., Proctor District, Tacoma
SPANK YOUR INNER SPIRIT MONKEY: Plagued by ghosts? Possessed by Satan? Bad connection on the channeling party line? Swing by the awesome Crescent Moon Gifts — “A Magical Gift Shop & Tea Lounge” on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue. It’s quite possibly the best place to find out if you really should believe what the voices in your head are telling you. Wander the showroom filled with incense, oils, candles, books and metaphysical supplies, and the largest selection of fairies, dragons and fantasy items in the entire country. They also invite you to get an intuitive reading from one of their skilled readers. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Crescent Moon Gifts, 6901 6th Ave., Tacoma
BLOCK PARTY: Keep up with The Joneses. How in the world can they afford that? Where would they be going at this time of night? What’s the wife’s name again? … Get all your burning questions answered while making the ol’ hood a friendlier place to hang your hat by hosting a social distancing block party for all your neighbors. Who knows? You just might like ’em.
MARKET DAY: Forget the indoors, the too-cold freezer aisle, the sterile linoleum and the wafting Muzak. Support local farmers and do the bulk of your grocery shopping at the Village Farmers Market on South Hill. The selection of fruits, veggies, handcrafted cheeses, cut flowers, bedding plants and fresh herbs is breathtaking. Also be sure to visit the Sunrise Village businesses too. 4-8:30 P.M., Sunrise Village, 10507 156th St. E., South Hill Puyallup
BINGO AND BREWS: Rainier Growlers will hosts their weekly Bingo And Brews night featuring Stemma Brewing Co. Jason Harper and his wife, Kim, opened the Bellingham brewery a little over two years ago. “Stemma” actually translates in Latin to “a written family genealogy.” The name reflects the family-oriented nature of the business. Head to South Hill and Grab Stemma brews and bingo cards/raffle tickets from Ben and the Rainier Growlers crew for a chance to win Stemma swag tonight. Play inside Rainier Growlers or join Jason Harper in the Rainier Growlers Zoom Room to chat about his beer and answer any questions. 6 p.m., Rainier Growlers, 13105 Meridian E., South Hill Puyallup
