THURSDAY, MAY 11 2017: Rogue Ales’ five Hop Family IPA + Tacoma events …
PREFUNK: Peaks and Pints will hold a Lodge Meeting with Rogue Ales & Spirits on the agenda — specifically the southern Oregon’s Hop Family series of IPAs, celebrating all eight varietals of hops grown at Rogue Farms. It’s a family of five distinct IPAs, each a unique blend of hops personally selected by Rogue Brewmaster John Maier. The Hop Family is comprised of 4 Hop IPA, 5 Hop IPA, 6 Hop IPA, 7 Hop IPA and 8 Hop IPA, with the 5 Hop being the most recent release, a black IPA. Rogue grows its own hops on a 42-acre hopyard on the banks of the Willamette River in Independence, Oregon. The eight varieties include Alluvial, Freedom, Independent, Liberty, Newport, Rebel, Revolution and Yaquina hops. Each year, Rogue Farms strings, stakes, trains, trims, separates, sorts, kilns, cools and bales the hops it grows before sending them to the Rogue Brewery in Newport, Oregon. The entire Rogue Hop Family will be pour from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log during 6 p.m. Lodge Meeting.

7:30 P.M.: UW Tacoma and Toy Boat Theatre present Water by the Spoonful, the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning middle chapter of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ trilogy of dramas centered, to varying degrees, around Elliot Ortiz, a Marine veteran of the 21st century Iraq war now returned to his native North Philadelphia with chronic nightmares and a chronic leg injury. Between acting gigs in commercials, Elliot works as a “sandwich artist” at Subway, perhaps a lowlier station in Philly than in a city less celebrated for its indigenous hoagies.
