TACOMA PREFUNK THURSDAY, JAN. 25 2018: Unibroue Belgian-style ales and flower lovers
PREFUNK: Unibroue has long set the standard for Belgian-style ales in Canada. Yeast is a large part of the story, providing secondary in-bottle fermentation and contributing typical fruity and spicy flavors. Unibroue founders André Dion and Serge Racine took beer-brewing techniques used by Trappist monks of Belgium and brought them to North America. After acquiring La Brasserie Massawippi brewery in Lennoxville, Quebec in 1990, the Quebec team brewed their first abbey ale. A few years later, they were shipping their beer internationally. Even after Sleeman purchased Unibroue in 2004, and subsequently by Sapporo in 2006, it has maintained the culture and flavor of a craft brewery. Peaks and Pints will get our Unibroue on at 6 p.m., inviting the Quebec brewery to pour five beers at our weekly Lodge Meeting, as well as raffle off all the schwag. Peaks and Pints’ kitchen manager Lindsay Giantvalley has prepared special dishes incorporating Unibroue beer.
11 A.M. TO 7 P.M. TACOMA HOME & GARDEN SHOW: This time of year, the only thing flower lovers have to look forward to is Seasonal Affective Disorder. For these folks, “artificial” won’t do; it’s just a countdown to spring. Ah, but there are a few plants that flourish indoors during the cold months to keep you smiling — and they’re not plastic. Folks at the Tacoma Home & Garden Show know which ones. WSU Pierce County Master Gardeners, Tacoma Rose Society and garden experts Marianne Binetti and Sue Goetz will lecture today. The show at the Tacoma Dome will also feature displays and vendors, such as new furniture so you can gaze at your pathetic plants in comfort.
7:30 P.M. GREY ANATOMY TRIVIA: Do you remember when Dr. Torres was Callie O’Malley and dancing in her underwear? Do you have flashbacks to the day you met Lexi?! Cat’s T&A hosts Grey’s Anatomy Trivia at Black Kettle Bites and Brew in downtown Tacoma.
