How do you feel? Exhausted? Relieved? Joy? Despair? It will take a while to sort out this divisive midterm election. Want good news? It will take at least a week or two for the 2020 campaign to start. Finding green shoots in the fire-ravaged fields of our political system can be hard. What isn’t hard is finding a six-pack of delicious craft beer and cider to celebrate, or help heal. Head to Peaks and Pints!
BARREL AGED YETI, Great Divide Brewing: Take Yeti Imperial Stout, age it for 20 months in used barrels from Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, Colorado’s only whiskey maker, and enjoy chocolate and vanilla malt with big oak and whiskey flavors. 12.2%, 12oz
BOURBON BARREL AGED OLD SCROOGE, Silver City Brewery: The cats at Silver City excel in their Barrel-Aged Series, from Bourbon Barrel Aged Time Goddess Imperial Stout to Port Barrel Giant Made of Shadows. But the barleywine is the star. This bourbon barrel-aged English barleywine offers up a rich aroma of toffee and sweet cherry, with a rush of warm vanilla, bourbon and caramel malt to create an immaculate fireside drinking companion. 9.5%, 500ml
FIRE BARREL CIDER, Finnriver Farm & Cidery: Finnriver wrangles apples from all over Washington, but its Orchard Series Fire Barrel is farmcrafted and fermented with a blend of homegrown Finnriver orchard organic cider apples and white wine yeast in stainless steel tanks. Once the fermentation is complete, they cask the cider in rye whiskey barrels for 5 months to impart depth and character. Past the smoky nose, expect a traditional cider apple taste with a whisper of whiskey and rye spice, caramel, vanilla and a mature, tannic finish. 9%, 750ml
INDIAN BROWN DARK IPA, Dogfish Head: Dogfish Head melds three standard styles — American brown ale, Scotch ale and IPA — to arrive at this brown beauty with toasted nuts, baked bread, crumbled chocolate and a touch of coffee on the nose. The Scotch ale third has more impact on the flavor — caramel, bitter dark chocolate, smoky peat, very subtle hints of raisins. 7.2%, 12oz
TART NOIRE, Paradox Beer: The Colorado brewery offers a red wine barrel-aged dark sour with cherry, oak, grape and currant on the nose followed by flavors of musty wood, cherry, grape, bitter raspberry and slight chocolate. 7%, 500ml
TIPSY TOBOGGAN, Two Beers Brewing: A dark and toasty warming winter ale, Tipsy Toboggan offers notes of chocolate, date, plum and orange with a dash of hops. The deep dark color and full flavored finish pair perfectly with outdoor adventures. 6.8%, 12oz
