THE ARTS: Kabby Mitchell III founded the Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center several month before the famed dancer died of coronary artery disease. The first black company member of the Pacific Northwest Ballet opened TUPAC so our city’s children of color could pursue their own dreams in the performing arts. Tonight, the Tacoma Art Museum will project TUPAC’s choreographic tribute to Harriet Tubman on their Pacific Avenue Façade. Harriet: The Black Swan In The Year of COVID-19 is a riveting ballet told in four seasons in the life of Tubman with choreography by Vorece Batchman Miller and Chloe Mohs and inspired by conversations with Evergreen State College-Tacoma founder Maxine Mimms PhD and Mitchell III. 7:30, 8 and 8:30 p.m., Tacoma Art Museum, 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, no cover

BEER FLIGHT: Today marks the first day of autumn, therefore Peaks & Pints sat with a dozen eggs to, once and for all, confirm or dispel the nagging question of whether or not eggs will stand unaided on the autumnal equinox. What we had was scrambled eggs for breakfast. What is guaranteed is that fall is upon us. The leaves are falling. You have sleeves on. It’s time to make it official: Peaks & Pints presents a to-go flight of fall beers. FOOD FOR ALL: Rotary Clubs are not just weekly raffles and annual hot toddy parties. The local leaders and community members involved in the international service organization provide humanitarian service and advance goodwill in their communities, including the members in the Rotary Club of Tacoma North. This Rotary club is hosting an auction fundraiser for the Emergency Food Network through Sept. 26. One of the auction packages caught our eye: a local restaurant gift card package that includes Peaks and Pints $50, The Cloverleaf $50, Terry’s Office Tavern $30, Macaluso’s $50, The Spar Tavern $50, Europa $30, and Lobster Shop $50. MUSEUM OF GLASS: The Museum of Glass joins the other Tacoma arts organization in hosting their annual fundraiser online. Red Hot Gala 2020 moves online with an incredible lineup of artwork donated by more than 15 generous artists, including Nancy Callan, James Mongrain, Dan Friday, John Kiley and Dante Marioni, the MOG Hot Shop Team, and others. Through Monday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m., you may bid on glass artwork until MOG’s virtual event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, which includes Preston Singletary and Raven Skyriver in The Hot Shop collaborating on a work of art specially created for Red Hot. LECTURE: Remember when every second Tuesday of the month The Swiss Restaurant & Pub hosted the University of Washington Tacoma Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences’ “Grit City Think & Drink” gathering where folks learned about cool thinks while getting their drink on. Yeah, a lot has changed. The UW program still brings big brains face-to-face with the general public, but now in the Grit City Zoom Room. Tonight, Dr. Jim Thatcher, associate professor of Urban Studies at the University of Washington Tacoma, will explore the history of gerrymandering in the US before turning toward discussions of alternative approaches to drawing districts. He’ll focus on Ohio, but there will be plenty of anecdotes, stories, and absurd moments in electoral politicking from across the nation. Pair the lecture with The Bruery’s Mischief Belgian Strong Golden Ale from the Peaks & Pints cooler. 6:30-7:30 p.m., Grit City Zoom Room

GLOW: Joey Soller and the Gig Harbor Maritime Luminata present GLOW, first annual Gig Harbor Maritime Luminata, tonight. Bidding adieu to the summer season and preparing for the shortening of days and introspection of the fall and winter season, lanterns and illuminated artworks will symbolize the spirit of the community and the comforting light of lanterns sustaining the spirit through the cold months.
