HOPPY HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE: The holiday season is a time to be charitable, and there are scores of specific ways to donate in Pierce County this winter. Usually, that means donating cash, but that isn’t the only way to help our fellow neighbors. Douville Home Group, in partnership with Peaks & Pints, has kicked off the fourth annual Hoppy Holiday Food Drive, where Pierce County breweries and cideries come together to support the Emergency Food Network. Through Nov. 29, 2022, 14 breweries and cideries will collect non-perishable food items and hygiene products to be distributed to thousands of Pierce County residents in need. Then join the breweries, ciders, Emergency Food Network, and Douville Home Group at Peaks and Pints on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, for a final weigh-in, announcement of our Hoppy Holiday Tap Handle Trophy winner, and raffle drawings for sweet brewery swag. PEAKS & PINTS PREFUNK: Stop by Peaks & Pints for a three-can flight of holiday-themed imperial stouts before or after the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital fundraiser in the Proctor District 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. Compass Rose, Envy Boutique, and Megs & Mo host a Holiday Open House featuring good cheer, treats, sips, and surprises in holiday environments with percentage of their evening sales going toward Mary Bridge. Compass Rose and Envy Boutique will be donating 10 percent while Megs & Mo bumps it up to 15 percent if you bring an item from Mary Bridge’s Wish List. The Holiday Open House is one of many events happening during the district’s “Proctor’s Peppermint Place” holiday celebration through Christmas. MOVIE: Opening at the Blue Mouse Theatre Friday, Ticket to Paradise tells the story of divorced couple Georgia and David, played by Julia Roberts and George Clooney, who are constantly arguing, except when it comes to their daughter Lily, who decides to get engaged to a man she just met in Bali. To prevent the couple from tying the knot, they decide decided to form a truce and engage in a series of shenanigans but begin to rekindle the feelings they once held for each other. If you’re a rom-com fan, this movie hit all the elements — beautiful filming locations, fun costuming, cheesy one-liners, and a charming plot line. THEATER: Tacoma Arts Live hosts The Hip Hop Nutcracker Sunday night at the Pantages Theater. Just like the original, in  The Hip Hop Nutcracker, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure taking on a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets, and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City. Through the modern, self-expressive gaze of hip hop culture, the dynamic performers of The Hip Hop Nutcracker take audiences on a journey that celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season. The production features hip-hop pioneer Kurtis “The Breaks” Blow, the first rapper to be signed by a major label in 1979. DARKWAVE 2022: Tacoma’s Proctor District projects a Darkwave will take control of Peaks & Pints craft beer and cider lodge, bottle shop and restaurant during Thanksgiving week. Starting at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21 and running through 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, some of the elusive elixirs that will course their way through Peaks & Pints draft lines include Great Notion Double Stack, Pohjala Cocobanger, Goose Island Bourbon County 2021 and 2022, AleSmith Minister of State, AleSmith Vietnamese Speedway Stout, Firestone Walker Orange Bitter Parabola, and many others. Peaks and Pints will be really dark Thanksgiving Day as we’ll be closed. There is no admission for this event, and all Darkwave ales will be priced individually by the glass.
