Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Our Mutual Friend Brewing

Share

Thanks to XBP Limited Liquids distributor in Tacoma, Our Mutual Friend Brewing co-owners and brewers Brandon Proff and Jan Chodkowski will be touring Western Washington today, including an 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. lunch stop at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. During this year’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, Peaks & Pints visited Our Mutual Friend Brewing, or OMF, in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood on Larimer Street. Founded in 2012, which makes it one of the oldest breweries in River North Art District, or RiNo, and while our first impression of the taproom was a carefully curated combination of hipster cool, industrial chic, and your British uncle’s library and faux nonchalance, it would be a mistake to call OMF just another neo-beatnik hangout. The award-winning outfit — numerous GABF medals, including a gold medal for Saison Trystero and silver medal for Biere Ovale in 2022, and a 2018 gold medal for Saison Trystero at World Beer Cup — roasts its own malt, making its grain-to-glass philosophy unique in the rapidly expanding Denver beer market and lending an impressive freshness to its brews. Stop by Peaks & Pints for lunch, grab our Thursday flight, Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Our Mutual Friend Brewing, and chat with Brandon and Jan.

Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Our Mutual Friend Brewing

Our Mutual Friend Ancient Palms

5.3% ABV

Though it’s crisp and clean like a German Pilsner, Ancient Palms West Coast Pilsner trades noble hops for American hops Azacca, Mosaic and Idaho 7 to create an appetizing aroma of tropical and citrus fruits. Expect subtle stone fruit flavors, dank notes and a refreshingly hoppy, bitter finish.

Our Mutual Friend Enigma Weirding Way

7% ABV

This foeder-fermented Brett saison is dry-hopped with Enigma. It pours with a luscious head of foam and a golden sun color. It hits the nose with funky tropical pineapple, papaya, and white grape. It’s brightly carbonated, but with a soft mouthfeel from foeder aging.

Our Mutual Friend Neon Nail

7.1% ABV

Our Mutual Friend’s flagship hazy IPA is the Neon Nail brewed with Vic Secret, Galaxy, and Citra hops. Mango, dank papaya, peaches, pears, melon, faint plum and some sweet grain command the nose while firm malt takes second chair to mango, grapefruit, pine, prickly herbal bitterness, and resiny hash on the tongue.

Our Mutual Friend Stingray Jesus

7.5% ABV

Charlotte, a stingray in North Carolina, had a pup, and the ECCO Aquarium in Hendersonville, N.C., don’t know how because she’s in a tank with no male rays.  She shares a tank with many animals, among which are two bamboo sharks. Because they’re both male, many speculated for a long time that they may be the true parents of Charlotte’s Stingray Jesus. On the other hand, Our Mutual Friend does know how their Stingray Jesus was born. They hopped the West Coast hazy-ish IPA with Riwaka, Luminosa, and Centennial.

Our Mutual Friend Time Arrow IPA

7.7% ABV

This West Coast IPA brewed with Colorado Malting Company malt and hopped with Idaho 7, Citra, and Colorado-grown Cascade hops hits the nose with diesel, resin, herbal mango, light pineapple, and a bit of bready malt. The flavor follows the nose with diesel, resin, light pineapple, and mango hop flavors, buoyed by a moderate malt sweetness that keeps things in balance.
