6-Pack of Things To Do in Tacoma: November 12-18 2024
It’s beginning to look a lot like 6-Pack of Things To Do. …
TUESDAY, NOV. 12 — EPIC BREWING STOUT FLIGHT: Epic Brewing Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, released another round of variants for their Big Bad Baptist whiskey barrel-aged imperial coffee and chocolate stout. Peaks & Pints presents an in-house flight of Epic’s Big Bad Baptist culinary confection flavor variants — a flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Epic Big Bad Baptist Variants. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Peaks & Pints, 3816 N. 26th St., Basecamp Proctor, Tacoma
TUESDAY, NOV. 12 — EDDIE IZZARD: Eddie Izzard is bringing his taste for raccoon eye shadow, blinding lamé suits and platform pumps to the Pantages Theater, thanks to Tacoma Arts Live. No doubt Izzard will command that stage with erratic style and hyperactive verve. Peaks & Pints has had an eye on Izzard since he was name attraction in his native Britain in the early ’90s. He’s wicked smart, which allows him to go off on mental tangents that brilliantly (and often nonsensically) segue among disparate topics like building of Stonehenge, strategic use of flag-planting in British colonialism, and the genesis of Engelbert Humperdinck’s name. Eddie Izzard: The Remix Tour Live, 7:30 p.m., Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway, Tacoma, $54-$96 at Tacoma Arts Live
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 13 — CHUCKANUT TO THE RESCUE: Dark times, indeed. Peaks & Pints has summoned Chuckanut Brewery to lighten the mood. We’re asking the Burlingham, Washington brewery to brighten November 2024. That’s right; Peaks & Pints will tap award-winning Chuckanut lagers at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, for a break from the malty richness, fuller bodies, and flavors of roasty goodness that’s dominating the draft lists this November. Chuckanut co-owner Mari Kemper will be in the house with lagers, giveaways, and her trademark charm. 5-8 p.m., Peaks & Pints, 3816 N. 26th St., Basecamp Proctor, Tacoma
FRIDAY, NOV. 15 — GRIT & GRAIN PODCAST DOES WASHINGTON CRAFT BEER SUMMIT: From inspiring sessions and Dr. J. Jackson-Beckham’s keynote to a lively trade floor and the Washington Beer Awards, it was a full day of learning and connecting with the Washington state craft beer industry Monday, Nov. 4, at the Double Tree in SeaTac. Tacoma’s Grit & Grain beer podcast was there, too, recording Episode 121 with guests we pulled off the Summit trade show floor including Shawna Cormier, director of the Washington Brewers Guild Washington Craft Beer Summit, Colin Harvin with Omega Yeast, and Jon Mendrick of Country Malt Group. Tune-in Grit & Grain Episode 121 around 9 a.m. Friday at gritandgrainpodcast.com, or your favorite podcast mediums.
FRIDAY, NOV. 15 — SUBTRONICS: Listening to Subtronics makes Peaks & Pints feel like we fell asleep watching Blade Runner and started having nightmares where the robot uprising began trying to get us to dance in darkness. We don’t know how much sense that makes — probably none — but maybe you could help us out by heading on down to the Tacoma Friday, Saturday or Sunday tonight, listening to the variations of dubstep basslines that are Subtronics, and then tracking us down afterward. You might find us in the middle of a Total Recall fever dream. With special guests RL Grime, Alison Wonderland, NGHTMRE b2b Dimension, and others, 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15-Sunday, Nov. 17, Tacoma Dome, 2727 East D ST., Tacoma, $69.50-$78.50
SATURDAY, NOV. 16 — HOLIDAYS IN HAWAI’I: We encountered ukulele musician Jake Shimabukuro through his much-admired rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” a piece that went viral in YouTube’s infancy. He’s a household name in Japan, where he’s the ambassador for Hawai’ian tourism. His instrument has only four strings with little sustain and can cover a mere two octaves from middle C up, but that’s close to the range of the average human voice. Thus, Shimabukuro has all the popular music at his disposal, including holiday tunes. From the timeless melodies of “We Three Kings” and “O Holy Night” to the playful tunes of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” Shimabukuro will transport you to a musical wonderland, reimagining these beloved songs in his own inimitable style. Tacoma Arts Live isn’t just producing a concert at the Pantages Theater; it’s a celebration of the holiday season and a fusion of musical excellence, and a testament to the power of harmonious unity. Jake Shimabukuro: Holidays in Hawai’i”, 7:30 p.m., Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway, Tacoma, $29-$89 at Tacoma Arts Live
