A slowly-developing La Nina is favored to influence conditions for the upcoming winter across most of the country, according to NOAA’s U.S. Winter Outlook released by the Climate Prediction Center — a division of NOAA’s National Weather Service. This outlook is for December 2024 through February 2025 and contains information on likely conditions throughout the country for temperature, precipitation and drought. This winter, NOAA predicts colder- and wetter-than-average conditions for the entire northern tier of the continental U.S., particularly in the Pacific Northwest, which translates to good snow conditions for ski resorts across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. Still, we know the weather is hard to predict in Washington, so we still need to pray for snow! Tonight at 6 p.m., let’s all think about snow, snow sports, and drink beer together. Peaks & Pints invites you to group hug over this serious situation, enjoy another Pray For Snow Party with Old Stove Brewing’s Warming Hut Winter IPA, which we helped brew, enjoy a plethora of winter beers on tap, and win some sway, including swag from Oneball and lift tickets to Crystal Mountain. Proceeds from the event will go the Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol. In addition, Peaks & Pints presents a flight of winter beers — a flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Pray For Snow 2024.
Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Pray For Snow 2024
Kings & Daughters Wintering
6.7% ABV
Kings & Daughters brew this cozy stout every late autumn with chilly, shorter days in mind. Unique and special enough for a holiday evening, classic enough for an every-night at home, this smooth stout hints of coffee and chocolate, with a touch of vanilla.
Rainy Daze Frosty Chairlift
6.9% ABV
Flick, acting on a triple-dog dare, stuck his tongue on a frosted school flagpole. Years later, Harry Dunne’s tongue met the same fate when he went for a refreshing ski-chairlift pole. No, doubt there are thousands of other cases when frost foiled fun, but Peaks & Pints be damned if we didn’t warn you to put that frosted pint glass back in the freezer. Pouring Rainy Daze Brewing’s Frosty Chairlift winter warmer into said glass would foil fun, watering down the hoppy, piney, brown sugar and cedar notes.
pFriem Winter Ale
7.2% ABV
Bright tawny amber with an off-white head, pFriem Family Brewers’ Winter Ale offers a fruity aroma with a touch of spice; waftings of fresh baked fruitcake with a touch of spruce tree. Rich bold flavors of hops and malt meld with a touch of orange zest and huckleberries. The finish leaves the mouth covered with a trace of caramel, cut by an assertive hoppiness.
Bale Breaker High Camp Winter IPA
7.3% ABV
Named for the ski lodge atop of White Pass Ski Resort, High Camp IPA takes Bale Breaker’s signature hop-forward style to a darker side with the addition of chocolate malts for malty backbone of spice and chocolate. Dry-hopped with Cascade, Centennial, and Mosaic, the hop character in High Camp bursts with pine and grapefruit.
Old Stove Warming Hut IPA
7.5% ABV
Brewed for Peaks & Pints Pray For Snow Party tonight, Old Stove Brewing’s Warming Hut is another take on a winter IPA. A hefty addition of rye malt gives this beer a subtle bready spiciness that accentuates the upfront bitterness, followed by a burst of citrus, tropical fruit, and pine — in both flavor and aroma — from Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and Warrior hops, along with a heaping amount of Centennial and Mosaic in the dry hop.
