Need to brighten up your Thursday? Meet Larry Rock at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. When he visits your table, ask him about funk music, Alabama White Barbecue Sauce, Charles Finkel, George Hancock, Mike Hale, and, of course, Adam Robbings — four legendary Northwest brewery owners who hired Larry — the last and current position selling Robbings’ Reuben’s Brews beer, including the new Brighten Up IPA that brings us back to Thursday. Larry will be at Peaks & Pints from 5-8 p.m. Thursday discussing their new Brighten Up session IPA, their new Foreign Export Stout, their new Puffy IPA, a hazy with juicy notes of orchard fruit and sweet melon, and a few other beers on tap. In conjunction, we’re offering an all-day Reuben’s Brews flight — a flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Brighten Up With Reuben’s Brews.
Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Brighten Up With Reuben’s Brews
Reuben’s Brighten Up
6% ABV
A new core beer for Reuben’s, juicy yet light-bodied Brighten Up IPA squeezes its vibrant character from Mosaic, Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe hops for notes of grapefruit and passionfruit. It finishes crisp and clean.
Reuben’s Brews Puffy IPA
6.5% ABV
Reuben’s newest hazy IPA is brewed using a new technique that gives it a soft, fluffy character. Expect aromas of juicy orchard fruit and sweet melon, followed by notes of bitter grapefruit.
Reuben’s Brews Little Fox Irish Red Ale
6.5% ABV
Englishman Adam Robbings’ beer recipes killed at homebrew competitions, including winning the silver medal at the National Homebrewing Competition, and his talent, along with a Kickstarter campaign that raised close to $11,000, eventually earned him, and his wife, Grace, their own brewery — Reuben’s Brews in Seattle’s Ballard District — named after their son, Reuben. Since then, the team has accrued an astounding number of accolades, including more World Beer Cup medals than foxes have claws. Little Fox is a modern take on the classic Irish red ale brewed with a grain bill of Caramel Steam, Chocolate Rye, Munich, Pale, and Vienna malts for notes of dark caramel, cherry, and light chocolate with a low level of bitterness and a clean finish.
Reuben’s Brews Foreign Export Stout
6.9% ABV
Foreign Extra Stout is a style of English origin that’s more even balanced, has a lower level of roast, and sports some fruity yeast esters compared to American stouts. Reuben’s version is brewed with seven types of malt for notes of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and nutty toffee with a moderately dry finish.
Reuben’s BBIS (2024 Edition)
14% ABV
Reuben’s Brews’ Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout, or BBIS, has been years in the making. It’s brewed using the same oat-forward and British specialty malt recipe that they followed with the original release in 2013, which was aged in two bourbon barrels from Hair Of The Dog Brewing. Over the years Reuben’s has adjusted and enhanced it, introducing new techniques to produce a bigger, richer, and silkier beer. Most of the barrels in this year’s blend have spent about 18 months aging in 8- to 12-year-old bourbon barrels, with the addition of some younger BBIS to contribute to the complexity of this bold imperial stout. Expect warming aromas of cocoa, milk chocolate and bourbon. The sip offers a silky mouthfeel, with vanilla and rich milk chocolate mid palate. Background notes of smoke, licorice and coffee are wrapped up with some cherry liquor at the finish.
