LOCAL FUNNY GUY
Gabriel Rutledge and his self-deprecating autobiographical routine have been cracking up audiences and impressing comedy critics for 15 years or so. Rutledge started opening for touring headliners at the “Go” Club in Olympia in 2002 before winning the 2004 Seattle International Comedy Competition. Rutledge’s career has been on a steady upward trajectory ever since, taking him to comedy clubs all over North America, appearances on Comedy Central and Nick at Nite, among other high profile shows. Catch the Olympia comedian with Nat Baime at 8:30 p.m. in Jazzbones.
PREFUNK: West Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters Bryan Copeland and Aaron Johnson are the brewers and co-owners behind Wet Coast Brewing Company, along with their wives Molly Copeland and April Johnson. They started planning their brewery for years, but didn’t get serious until 2012. They opened in Gig Harbor in 2015 on a 3.5-barrel brewing system, with three 7-barrel bright tanks and four 7-barrel fermenters. They serve their beers and guest taps in an on-site taproom. Guests (all ages) can view the brewing process and purchase ales for consumption at home, via growlers and eventually bottles and cans. The Blazing Onion Burger Co. in Tacoma hosts the Gig Harbor brewery from 6-9 p.m.
PELE FILM
Pelé. A name known around the world, a sports legend who changed soccer forever, and a national hero who carried the hopes and dreams of a country on his back. But before he was an icon, he was a kid from the slums of São Paulo, Brazil, so poor that he couldn’t afford a real soccer ball. Charting his meteoric rise — from scrubbing floors to support his family to honing his electrifying playing style on the streets to leading Brazil’s national team to its first World Cup victory at the age of 17 — Pelé: Birth of a Legend vividly brings to life the greatest sports story of the 20th century at 1:50 and 6:35 p.m. in The Grand Cinema.
PREFUNK: This past weekend Elysian Brewing celebrated its 20th anniversary. Folks gathered to drink 40 or so Elysian beers and discuss the Seattle brewery’s huge impact on Seattle’s beer scene since opening in 1996. Many local brewers have been influenced by their beer, and they continue to churn out well-made, interesting beer, including the Noir Series — Elysian’s more successful dark beers from past years. The Parkway Tavern celebrated all that is Elysian, including limited Noir Series beers, beginning at 6 p.m.
