TUESDAY PREFUNK: Craft beer before dreampop and skateboarding

Share

TUESDAY, JUNE 21 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …

Dreampop + Rain Warriors = dripping guitars and 5Ks

Skateboarding film + Double Mountain = let’s go crazy!

DREAMY POP MELT

Pale Dīan formerly Blackstone Rngrs clawed their way through North Texas’s urban mantle, finding the blood connections necessary to drink from their fermenting sonic emotions. The sacred marriage blends affection for modern electronic music with an urgent fetish for classic 4AD dreampop and noise. The orgy happens when swirls of orgasmic synthesizers embrace dripping guitars and tantric rhythms and pulses. Healthy doses of noise are always comforted by soft waterbeds of the ambient and dreamy. You in? Pale Dīan joins Seattle Close Encounter and Olympia’s Animyst and The Various Moods of for a dreamy pop melt at 9 p.m. in Obsidian in downtown Olympia.

PREFUNK: The Rain Warriors 5K Club is all about the 5K. It’s not the Rain Warriors 10K Club. The Olympia-based running group “collects” 5Ks, whether during their weekly Tuesday 5K runs or community 5K runs. Hit a certain mark of 5K and receive a T-shirt. The Rain Warriors have moved their Tuesday home base from Three Magnets Brewing Co. to the Fish Tale Brew Pub. Join the group at 5:45 p.m. and start racking up 5Ks. Afterward, it’s all about Fish Brewing beer and raffle prizes.

SKATEBOARDING FILM

In celebration of National Go Skateboarding Day, The Grand Cinema will screen the documentary I Am Thalente at 1:45 and 6:30 p.m., with a post-film discussion about the skateboarding issues the film addresses after the second screening. Homeless since the age of 9, South African skateboarder Thalente Biyela travels to the US to pursue his dream of becoming a professional skateboarder. Through his eyes, we experience what it takes to rise up out of circumstance and escape a lifetime on the streets. After the film, enjoy a Kona brewing beer and toss questions at Metro Parks Tacoma Commissioner Jessie Baines, Alchemy Skateboarding Executive Director Ben Warner, Camp Fire Orca Executive Director Mary Grant and others, including issues about skateboarding in Tacoma.

PREFUNK: The void created by Prince’s ascension is going to be hard to fill, and everyone knows it. If you want to celebrate Prince’s life, discuss his music with the people you love — or even better, discuss it with the people who love Prince the way you do — we have an event for you. Double Mountain Brewery loves Prince and brewed a beer to prove it, Dearly Beloved IPA. This beer shimmers with red tropic fruit, dank pine and melon and finishes with a clean evergreen bitterness. The Copper Door opens its copper door to the Hood River brewery for its Tasting Tuesday session at 6 p.m. Sip a Dearly Beloved while you write Prince lyrics on a coaster or create a dove out of a beer label, or just share your Prince memories with other craft beer drinkers. Double Mountain will also pour its Shandy blend of Jumping Jack Flash Cider and its Bohemian Pilsner, Kolsch and an Oak Barrel Aged Pale Death. Writing lyrics or folding Origami to the Pale Death might get weird so try to concentrate on Prince.
