TUESDAY, JULY 5 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
Mister Blackwatch + The Copper Door = magical flight
Dough film + 99 Bottles = high flight
MISTER BLACKWATCH
In 2012, Tacoma musician, producer and actor Doug Mackey got the band back together — the band being Mister Blackwatch, which was born, lo, many years ago when Mackey, Nick Huff and Joe Wood had issues with cows, kites, a monster, a snake, a robot, bongos and “Orange,” and the only cure was to work through the issues musically. Tonight, Mister Blackwatch messes with Treos’ trivia night before plugging in at 7:30 p.m.
PREFUNK: Beer festivals are an excellent way to sample a wide range of craft breweries and styles. But if the festival scene doesn’t sound appealing, beer fans can create their own diverse festival at their own pace on almost any day of the week — while also getting the most bang for your buck and more beer for your belly. The answer: flights. Fortunately for those fickle souls among us, most South Sound breweries and a few bars, restaurants and taprooms offer beer flights. If you can’t decide what beer to taste on a night out, taste as many as possible with these various flights put together by beer aficionados. Some establishments, such as The Copper Door, remove the burden of choice by offering a curated $6 flight every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Today’s flight is Green Flash Sea To Sea Lager, 21st Amendment Brew Free Or Die IPA, Stone Enjoy By 07.04.16 IPA and Black Market Brewing Liberation Imperial IPA.
DOUGH!
A kosher baker hires a Muslim apprentice, not knowing that the industrious young fellow has a side gig dealing weed. When the kid accidentally dumps his product in the baker’s dough, the resulting challah mixture has a decidedly calming effect on their community. A favorite at Jewish film festivals, the dramedy Dough will screen at 1 and 6:30 p.m. in The Grand Cinema. What? Isn’t the key to cross-cultural understanding is to blaze up as often as possible. Puff, puff, Passover.
PREFUNK: Speaking of beer flights, 99 Bottles in Federal Way offers a weekly beer flight in addition to their eight craft beers on tap for growler fills to go. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 99 Bottles will offer a flight of Brouerij Lindemans Pomme Lambic, Coniston Bluebird Session Ale, Mustang Brewing Mmmhops Pale Ale and Fort George Brewery 3-Way IPA.
