RAIDERS OF THE INCOMPLETE FILM
In 1982, three 11-year-old friends from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, decided to do the impossible and filmed a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It took them seven years before they were done with the project … although they were never able to fully finish; they were missing one key scene. We won’t tell you which scene that is, because you can see them go through the adventure and the torment of finally shooting it as adults in the thoroughly hilarious and surprisingly poignant Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made at 4, 6:30 and 9 p.m. in the Capitol Theater.
PREFUNK: The Fish Brewing Company hosts another beer-pairing dinner in its barrel room at 6 p.m. Chef Rick Mullins will serve salad of plums, tomatoes, raspberry vinegar, goat cheese; prosciutto wrapped figs stuffed with blue cheese and marcona almonds; lemon sorbet; pork chop with cherry demi-glaze and blueberry buckle with poppy seed ice cream — with head brewer Paul Pearson offering a pairing Fish beer or Spire Mountain cider with each dish. Tickets are $70 at brownpapertickets.com.
CATCH THE COMEDY BUG
The last time you ever saw the inside of a comedy club you were at the tail end of a three-day bender and decided to sneak in through the kitchen. The emcee recognized you in the crowd and started tossing some light comic abuse in your direction as part of his warm-up. Let’s give you another chance. The Tacoma Comedy Club hosts its Wednesday Comedy Open Mic at 8 p.m. Let’s use the front door.
PREFUNK: Founded in 1988, North Coast Brewing Co. predates the Internet and the craft beer explosion alike, but it’s managed to continue innovating all the while. This spring saw the Fort Bragg, California brewery become a Benefit Corporation, which means North Coast Brewing is legally bound to pursue social and environmental goals as well as profitability based on its articles of incorporation. Stewardship is awesome, but let’s talk beer. We’re not sure what North Coast beers the Parkway Tavern will tap at 6 p.m. as part of its salute to the Northern California brewery, but here’s hoping for a petite saison Puck the Beer; the farmhouse/saison Le Merle; the malty, pilsner-style Scrimshaw; Blue Star Wheat Ale; Acme IPA; the dry-hopped Steller IPA; Red Seal, NCBC’s flagship (and first) beer; PranQster; the Belgian-style Abbey ale Brother Thelonious; the light stout Old 38; Old Rasputin, the bitterest brew with the most hops; and Old Stock Ale, which is meant to be an after-dinner beer.
THE TICKLED PINKS
The Tickled Pinks are a swing vocal trio and band that started as a tribute act dedicated to playing Andrews Sisters arrangements true to their original sound. What started out as three bartending canaries on late night romps evolved into a sophisticated evocation of a time almost forgotten. Catch their fresh energy and witty playfulness at 7 p.m. in Sylvester Park in downtown Olympia.
PREFUNK: Hops, if you’ll pardon the easy pun, are hopping around here. The Hop Growers of America reports an increase of 5,400 acres in the Pacific Northwest and 600 acres on smaller farms across the country in 2016. Unlike the 2015 drought, irrigation supplies are expected to be at full capacity for growers in the Yakima Valley. With the yearly harvest comes a torrent of fresh-hop beers made from hops are at their peak of freshness, bursting with aroma from rhizome to rhizome. The Northwest leads the world in the production of these tasty seasonals, and the alert drinker can grab a fresh hop beer in Olympia tonight. Two Beers Brewing Co. is the first to market with their Fresh Hop IPA. Grab one and other Two Beers brews and Seattle Cider Company ciders from 6-8 p.m. at Growler Garage.
POP PUNK
In a pop landscape where the term “hot mess” has gone from pejorative to prerequisite, Ramona – WA stand out. Their Hot Ramen album is a gas, gas, gas. Catch the poppy cutie punk band with lusty lo-fi-ers Sand Dolls and weird dust punkers Turqouiz Noiz at 9 p.m. in the Peterson brothers’ The Valley.
PREFUNK: Fremont Brewing Company is a family-owned craft brewery founded in 2009 and located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. Crafted with barley from the Okanogan Valley in British Columbia, hops from a 4th generation hop-growing family in the Yakima Valley and water from the Cedar River in the Cascade Mountains, their beers are crisp, clean, and represent a Northwest blend of rich malt flavor and subtle hop spice. The Ale House Pub and Eatery hosts Fremont from 6-9 p.m., offering one of the last chances to grab a Fremont Summer Ale before they disappear. In addition to other Fremont brews, those crazy, good-looking gents from Chambers Bay Distillery will also be in the House with specialty cocktails on the brain.
MELTING FACES
There’s something ultra-satisfying about Mos Generator’s plump, swollen riffs — like rolls around Fat Albert’s stomach, they’re something you can really grab onto. The Port Orchard trio effortlessly possesses the meaty dissolution that all stoner bands would kill for. The band will join Red Fang and Teepee Creeper for an 8 p.m. show at Jazzbones.
PREFUNK: Monday, The Red Hot dropped the first fresh hop beer of the season, Two Beers’ Fresh Hop IPA. Tonight, the Sixth Avenue craft beer joint busts out OktoBEERfest (a warm up!) with Bitburger Pils, Benediktiner Weisse and Kostritzer Schwarzbier on tap at 5 p.m. and sausage on the tin plates. Bitburger half-liter steins will be available while they last.
TACOMA HISTORY TRIVIA
Join the City of Tacoma’s Historic Preservation Office, the Washington State History Museum and Tacoma Historical Society as they host the third annual Tacoma History Trivia Night at The Swiss Restaurant and Pub, beginning at 7 p.m. Participants are invited to test their knowledge of state and city history. Fun prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
PREFUNK: Silver Moon Brewing, Bend, Oregon’s third oldest brewery, underwent an ownership shakeup in 2013, bringing in new money and new owners Matt Barret and James Watts, and has been growing ever since Tyler Reichert opened the then homebrewing supply and nanobrewery in 2000. Pint Defiance will host Silver Moon at 5 p.m., pouring Mango Daze Session Ale, Spa Day Lemon Cucumber Gose and Dark Tranquility Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, to name a few.
