TUESDAY, SEPT. 6 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
The Swiss + The Red Hot = sour faces
Studio 6 Ballroom + Hop Jack’s = ukes and ales
GEEKS WHO DRINK
Geeks Who Drink quiz is a fast-paced, two hour, eight round trivia night at 8 p.m. every Tuesday in The Swiss Restaurant and Pub. There are eight questions per round — heavy on pop culture — with teams of six people battling it out. What Eurythmics song did Madonna cover? Which celebrity pulled down a bigger paycheck in 2008: A-Rod or Tiger Woods? And how did the skinny girl with the Tina Fey glasses not know “Take on Me” is by Norwegian super-group a-ha? What, have you been living in a cave for the past 20 years? This is not only one of the most brain-wormy songs of all time, but it also served as the basis for the GREATEST music video EVER MADE!
PREFUNK: A few weeks ago the New York Times named Portland’s Cascade Barrel House as having the best sour beer in all the land. Cascade is a pioneer of the Northwest style sour beer movement. Its blending house currently houses more than 1,400 French oak, Kentucky Bourbon and Northwest wine barrels — plus nine foudres — filled with wheats, blonds, quads, reds, browns and porters that are aged and blended into magical elixirs. The Red Hot hosts Cascade tonight, taping Elderberry, Blackcap Raspberry and The Vine at 5 p.m., as well as pulling out a selection of Cascade bottles from the cellar.
UKULELE JAM
While the South Sound has long served as a breeding ground for musicians employing a bevy of instruments from guitars to synths to mandolins, the humble four-string ukulele seems to have made little impact on our music scene. Armed with ukuleles, the Ukulele Singalong Circus seeks to change all that. The group hosts a uke jam from 6-8 p.m. every first Tuesday at the Studio 6 Ballroom Event Hall & Studios. All are welcome to come sing, play a ukulele if you got one, or just sit and enjoy the madness. Lead sheets and disco ball are provided.
PREFUNK: Many folks anticipate the changing hue of the falling leaves. Others toil under the rapidly diminishing daylight, raking away said leaves. But if the only seasonally affected vegetation concerning you is the particular combination of malt and hops in your pint glass, then head to Hop Jack’s in Bonney Lake because Puyallup River Brewing will be in the house with its Jack O’Lahar Pumpkin Ale and other seasonal beers from 6-9 p.m.
