FRIDAY, OCT. 28 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
Hilltop Tacoma + The Red Hot = Washington beer and bluegrass lovers
Broadway Center + Narrows Brewing Co. = Beauty
The Valley + E9 Brewery = Devils and sours
HALLOWEEN HILLTOP
There’s a Halloween party on Hilltop Tacoma tonight. At 8 p.m., the TShirt Men (920 Martin Luther King Jr Way) will host bluegrass-ish band Dixie Highway, pour Wingman Brewers Rye IPA and create glow-in-the-dark Whiskey Rock N Roller T-shirts. The Eleven Eleven and Broken Spoke are also in on the fun, with The Rusty Cleavers performing at the 1111 at 10 p.m.
PREFUNK: So … Peaks and Pints didn’t open Wednesday as planned due to fire suppression craziness, which means we had to cancel our Washington Beer Lovers party tonight. Have no fear; the party moved to The Red Hot. Drop by the award-winning hot dog craft beer joint on Sixth Avenue to join WaBL, redeem passport prizes, score some glassware and celebrate Washington craft beer.
THE RUSSIAN GRAND BALLET
We know this is going to be hard for some to believe, but most places, when they talk about professional dancers, they mean ballet. If you haven’t seen ballet, you’ll be surprised how much more exciting and beautiful it is than you thought. If you are a ballet fan, you certainly don’t need us telling you to check out the dancers of The Russian Grand Ballet. They’ll be performing The Sleeping Beauty in the Broadway Center’s Pantages Theater at 7:30 p.m.
PREFUNK: Narrows Brewing Co.’s Ursula Imperial Stout is big, chewy, delicious and going fast. Peaks and Pints sipped the beauty as we clear-coated wood in our lodge last night. Tons of dark malts and the right amounts of hops allow for a slight sweetness to come through making for the perfect sipping. Beware: It’s 9.8% ABV, which makes painting interesting toward the end of the night.
DEVIL ON A LEASH
Have you ever seen the look on someone’s face the first time he rides a roller coaster? It’s a mixture of abject fear, exhilaration and satisfaction. This same convoluted look might grace your mug standing in front of Devil On a Leash at The Valley tonight. Peaks and Pints urges you to blow off some serious steam with Devil On a Leash. This band rocks, and rocks it in a roller coaster way. It’s an up-and-down ride in terms of their sound. The band changes its style of rock within a set more than we change dour opening date. That said, its heavy guitars remain a constant base. The wilder opens the 8 p.m. show.
PREFUNK: Shane Johns, Donovan Stewart and the E-9 Brewery crew brew some of the best sours and Saisons in the nation. Seriously. The Tacoma brewery is right up there with Almanac and Cascade Barrelhouse. Drop by the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pine for tulips of their Bing Cherry Sour, Belgian White, Ferme Agrume #6 and the goodies in their cooler. Guest taps also include Holy Mountain, Perennial Artisan, Port Brewing and other peers.
