MONDAY, DEC. 19 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
Creative Colloquy + Peaks and Pints = Good story
Zoolights + Fantasy Lights + Harmon Tap Room = Christmas
NIGHT OF STORYTELLING
Do you like big finales? Do you enjoy literary shenanigans? Well, get your butt to B Sharp Coffee House at 7 p.m. as the monthly Creative Colloquy storytelling session takes it to the next level with Creative Colloquy Volume Three book launch and reading extravaganza. Volume Three is the cumulative efforts of Creative Colloquy and the writers and artists of the South Puget Sound to forge a community platform where everyone is welcome to share and enjoy the art of storytelling. As part of its mission, Creative Colloquy in book form explores a wide variety of subjects, styles and abilities within writing. Creative Colloquy Commander Jackie Casella will flick the mic on for Christina Butcher, Daniel Person, Jenni Prange Boran and Josh Kilen to tell a tale or two. Wait! There’s more! Washington Poet Laureate Tod Marshall will play celebrity emcee and drop a word or two, too. Books will be available for sale for $20 a piece and at a discounted price when paired with Volumes One and Two. An open mic is part of the mix. Bring your words to share.
PREFUNK: Brown Shugga, a seasonal brew from Lagunitas, was created in 1997 as the result of an attempt to rescue a failed batch of Olde GnarlyWine Ale by adding “boatloads of brown sugar” — or so the story goes, anyway. It’s less sweet than you’d expect, smooth and biscuity-tasting with a subtle brown sugar flavor and piney hops that kick in with a bitterness that intensifies for two or three seconds before starting to fade. When the beer is cold the hop bitterness is the dominant flavor, but it mellows out as it warms up, letting the malts come through more. Peaks and Pints has Brown Shugga flowing from our Western red cedar tap log. Have a pint or two during tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Panthers and Redskins.
HOLIDAY LIGHTS
The moths are on to something. Lights are awesome. Especially holiday lights. Make tonight the night you check out Zoolights or Fantasy Lights — both South Sound institutions. Zoolights, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium’s holiday light show and extravaganza, offers a stroll through more than half a million lights, crafted whimsically throughout the zoo from 5-9 p.m. Take a driving tour of Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park, where carloads of travelers can see more than 300 stunning displays of lights and imaginative animation over a two-mile stretch of Spanaway Lake Park from 5:30-9 p.m. Tune in to a special holiday radio station for a little holiday music to add to the mood. A Monday evening would be a nice time to take the family out and see some bright shiny things.
PREFUNK: Harmon Brewing Co. is knee deep in its annual 12 Beers of Christmas celebration. Running through Christmas Eve, a new Harmon small batch holiday beer is tapped each day at the Harmon Tap Room. Those who jumped into the program on Dec. 13 will be handsomely rewarded with an engraved mug as proof of your brew dedication. In fact, anyone who visits the Tap Room daily will be rewarded with a newly tapped delicious Harmon seasonal, whether he or her has a stamped passport or not.
