Rod Cook is a well-respected guitarist known for his stylistic versatility and soulful, melodic playing. A mainstay with folk/funk, Americana artist Laura Love in the 1990s and the early part of last decade, Cook began the guitar at the age of 9. Cook has backed up blues legend Taj Mahal as well as opened as a solo act for Todd Rundgren, Sonny Landreth, and Charlie Musslewhite. Catch the multiple Washington Blues Society Award winner at 8 p.m. in G. Donnalson’s in Tacoma’s Proctor District.
PREFUNK: Remember when Restoration Hardware recalled 12,000 Sock Monkeys after it was discovered that sewing needles had ended up inside some of the creepy chimps. We can’t quite recall but didn’t Restoration Hardware, in an effort to recoup some losses, resell the needles as Vintage Salem Polished Satin Pins at $25 apiece? Probably not. We can say with confidence that the sock monkeys used for Iron Horse Brewery’s Sock Monkey Challenge at Peaks and Pints tonight won’t be dangerous. That’s right; Peaks and Pints will hold a 6 p.m. lodge meeting focusing on Iron Horse Brewery, and by focus Peaks and Pints means drinking a bunch of the Ellensburg brewery’s craft beers, including Double Rainbow IRA and the new Beer Wolf IPA. Expect door prizes.
BONUS: Odd Otter Brewing Co. will release its new Blonde Otter at 7 p.m. The downtown Tacoma brewery will pour the moderately hopped, well-balanced craft beer with a good malt backbone as singer/songwriter and Peaks and Pints bartender Kristen Marlo performs. DJ Pablo Escobeer kicks in the karaoke at 9 p.m.
