TUESDAY, MARCH 28 2017: South Sound events + craft beer …

The Valley + Peaks and Pints = Unconditional Joy

The Grand Cinema + The Ram = Sharks and Rabbits

TUESDAY BLUESDAY

Saturday, garage-rock hero Buck Ormsby — best known as long-time bassist for the Fabulous Wailers and co-owner of Tacoma label, Etiquette Records — was remembered during “Buck’s House Party,” a memorial concert held at the Temple Theatre. It was a who’s who of Northwest 1950s and 1960s musicians, including former Moby Grape guitarist Jerry Miller. Miller rocked the joint, just as he does every Tuesday at The Valley down the street from the Tacoma Dome, although his 7 p.m. Valley sets are more bluesy, which works well since the dang night is called “Tuesday Bluesday.”

PREFUNK: Peaks and Pints Pal Kristi Bowman Morgan is a positive person. She speaks positively. She writes positively. We’re positive you’ll love her as much as we do. When the Tacoma native, University of Puget Sound graduate and frequent Peaks and Pints patron asked us to host her release party for her latest book, Positive Perspectives: Learning the Art of Unconditional Joy, we gave her a positive response. Expect positive vibes, her requested Hop Valley Brewing Citrus Mistress IPA and Morgan chatting up her book at 7 p.m. in Peaks and Pints in Proctor.

JAWS VS PLASTIC

Dundun, dundun. You are guaranteed to want to scream at the Amity Island locals to get out of the water, get over the beach being shut down, and stop being sleazy politicians in aggravatingly ugly suits. You almost couldn’t care less that these jerks are going to be a buffet for a marauding great white shark, but you do want to see the trio of male leads take down the beast. You’re probably not going to scream at Karen Povey, curator of Conservation Engagement at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, unless she stands and blocks The Grand Cinema screen when Jaws starts rolling at 6:45 p.m. After the giant great white sharks wreaks havoc on the shores of a New England beach resort Povey will discuss “What’s Really the Scariest Thing in the Sea? Plunging into Ocean Plastics.” Yes, Science on Screen is back at The Grand. We suggest you leave your plastic great white shark replica at home.

PREFUNK: The RAM has released its annual Rabbit Punch Red Ale, although this year it’s hoppier than the Irish red style of year’s past. This spring seasonal beer delivers a one-two combo of toasty malt sweetness and Citra hop flavors. Pale, Munich, Crystal and Flaked Barley malts combine to create a warm malt profile and Citra hops deliver a punch of hoppy flavor and aroma.
