Brew Five Three Questions with Jordan Zehner of Incline Cider

Incline Cider will be one of 30 or so regional cideries and breweries blanketing Chambers Bay giant lawn for the 2024 Brew Five Three Beer & Music Festival Saturday, Aug. 10. Presented by Tacoma Arts Live, Brew Five Three not only will offer splendor for beer nerds and novice drinkers alike, but also delicious local restaurants and live entertainment against the stunning backdrop of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains.

Peaks & Pints will participate as part of the local Grit & Grain beer podcast, which precedes bands The Pazific, PLU’s Steel Pan Band, and Walker Sherman on the main stage, as well as a drinking patron. First, we want to know what we’re drinking at Brew Five Three. We asked Incline Cider Company co-owner Jordan Zehner three questions, including what ciders Incline will be pouring.

PEAKS & PINTS: What ciders are you bringing to Brew Five Three this year?

JORDAN ZEHNER: Our game plan is for Fujis Gold, The Tropics, and Cucumber Jalapeño. Each pair well with toasty temps and sunshine. I always like sharing something that is predominately apple like Fuji’s Gold, something that perfectly fits the season such as The Tropics, and something a little extra wild or interesting, which describes our Cucumber Jalapeño cider. It’s a fun mix.

PEAKS & PINTS: Since Brew Five Three benefits Tacoma Arts Live’s arts educational programs that serve 40,000+ students, teachers, and parents annually in the South Sound, how has art played into Incline’s culture?

ZEHNER: We collaborate with Foster’s Creative on a fair amount of our newer posters and sales sheets. It’s been great to have someone to collaborate with when it comes to artwork. It’s the first thing people see. It’s an opportunity to draw them in and evoke some emotion with just an image. Our branding has always been very clean and relatively simple, but working with Foster’s, and on projects for the taproom, we have a chance to step outside of our usual lane and have a little more fun with the art side of things.

PEAKS & PINTS: What inspired you to host a Taproom Disco Retro Night at your Incline Cider House this Friday.

ZEHNER: We just love to have fun and mix it up. Any excuse to get a little retro and show off a Blue Hawaiian cider slushy while bumping some disco tunes. Hoping I can pull off a Negroni cider for it — stay tuned! Our Taproom Disco Retro Night is a really fun way to curate a flight of some different cider flavors, pulling them together with an upbeat theme — plus bingo!

Brew Five Three is one of many events happening during Tacoma Beer Week 2024, which runs August 9-18.
