NORMAN LEAR DOCUMENTARY
If you were conscious in the 1970s, you know Norman Lear. At one point in that decade, six of the top 10 shows on television were either created or developed by him: All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and Sanford and Son. The Grand Cinema will screen the documentary Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You — which examines several of these shows with an eye for Lear’s success in pushing the political boundaries of television — at 1:45 and 7 p.m.
PREFUNK: Astronomers just identified a young star, located almost 11,000 light years away, which could help us understand how the most massive stars in the Universe are formed. This young star, already more than 30 times the mass of our Sun, is still in the process of gathering material from its parent molecular cloud, and may be even more massive when it finally reaches adulthood. It’s a key stage in the birth of this very massive star, and the researchers found that these stars form in a similar way too much smaller stars like our Sun — from a rotating disc of gas and dust. Ponder this while drinking a flight of Universe-minded Ecliptic Brewing beers at The Copper Door tonight. From 6-9 p.m., research the Ecliptic Ultra Violet Blackberry Sour Ale, Carina Peach Sour, Quasar Pale Ale and Barrel-aged Rastaban Oud Bruin.
GET DEAD
From San Francisco comes Get Dead. Born in 2007 out of several California-based acts, this five-piece was drawn together by their appeal for punk infused rock and roll riffs and lyrics that have honesty, laced with the experiences that are hidden beneath the skeletons in one’s closet. The band is touring behind their eclectic new album, Honesty Lives Elsewhere, rolling into The Valley tonight. Joining the Bay Area punk quintet will be the Hilltop Rats, NeutralBoy and Head Honcho.
PREFUNK: Craig and Tiffany Adamowski opened 99 Bottles in Federal Way Jan. 20, 2007. This week, sip and shop with No-Li Brewhouse Loser, Boundary Bay Brewery Scotch Ale, Bières et Fromages Trappistes de Chimay Cinq Cents and Paradise Creek Brewery Over-The-Hop IPA from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
