Coaster House Construction with 20 Corners Brewing
The first 20 corners are the toughest. Ask any coaster house builder and they’ll agree — building a coaster house becomes easier after those first 20 corners are in place. Peaks and Pints isn’t sure if 20 Corners Brewing ran into the same issue and, therefore, stopped once they reached 20 corners on their beautiful brewery in Woodinville, but we do know delicious beer emerges from their 20-cornered structure.
Peaks and Pints will host 20 Corners Brewing and a beer coaster house building contest at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21 in our craft beer bar, bottle shop and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District.
There are several ways to build a house of coasters. The “classic” method that you may have seen in popular media is based on a series of triangular trusses that peak to a point in a card pyramid. Many professional card-stackers, however, start their structures with a four-card cell or “lock box,” which forms a much more stable foundation for complex designs.
Peaks and Pints isn’t sure if Andrew Davis and Vern Olson formulated their 20 Corners Brewing business while sitting around a campsite table building a coaster house in 2013, but the duo incorporated their love for the outdoors into their building motif and craft beers, as demonstrated by the names of their beers we’re pouring: hazy Elk Haze IPA, hazy Ghost Trees IPA, Ground Rush IPA brewed with Simcoe and Mosaic, and Calypso Peach Sour.
“From fishing, skiing, biking, you name it, our love for the outdoors and creating a brewing process that positively impacts the outdoors is why we do this,” states the 20 Corners Brewing’s website.
Peaks and Pints likes how that stacks.
Join 20 Corners Brewing Thursday, March 21 at Peaks and Pints and build a house of coasters with all the corners.
