MONDAY PREFUNK: Craft beer before Kevin Hart and Chandler O’Leary

Share

MONDAY, OCT. 24 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …

Galaxy Uptown Theater + Local Boys Tap Room = Silver Screen and Silver City

Collins Memorial Library + Tacoma Restaurant Week = food for thought

WHAT NOW?

That Kevin Hart keeps racking up the superlatives. He recently dethroned no less than Jerry Seinfeld as America’s highest-paid comic, and according to the promo for his latest concert flick, What Now?, he’s the first comedian ever to sell out a stadium. (53,000 folks in Philadelphia — though we say Gilbert Gottfried could pack Bass Pro Shops with the right promotion.) Taking all of that into consideration, we fully expect What Now? to outdraw Hart’s previous concert doc, 2013’s Let Me Explain. Check it out at 11:45 a.m., 2:15, 4:45, 7:45 and 10:20 p.m. in the Galaxy Uptown Theaters in Gig Harbor.

PREFUNK: Silver City Brewery will take time off from what seems to be releasing a new beer a day to hang out all day at Local Boys Tap Room next to the Purdy Bridge. Local Boys owners Bobby and Trevor will pour Silver City’s Fat Scotch, Oktoberfest Lager, Uberfest, Saint Florian IPA and Ta Ta Wheat while Silver City folk raffle off prizes including a Silver City Brewery VIP tour for 11. The marathon brewery hug begins at 2 p.m.

FARM TO TABLE

Chandler O’Leary’s Farm to Table exhibit features a series of illustrations, lettering, patterning, and paper installations that highlight organic farming and the sustainable food movement in the South Sound region. From original sketchbooks to cut-paper pieces, the body of work illustrates the agricultural importance of our region and highlights the struggle to preserve farmland amid rapid suburban and industrial development. Check it out from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Collins Memorial Library on the University of Puget Sound campus.

PREFUNK: It’s the final week of Tacoma Restaurant Week, a special dining deal when participating restaurants offer three-course lunches for $15 and dinners for $28. Lunch and dinners are offered this week through Thursday. The weekly newspapers The Ranger, Northwest Airlifter and Weekly Volcano sponsor the event. Close to two-dozen Tacoma-area restaurants are participating, including RAM Restaurant & Brewery. Find event details and participating restaurants here.
