MONDAY, MAY 15 2017: SudsPop before Tacoma events …
PREFUNK: Suppose some smartypants decided to conduct a study aimed at determining the hierarchy of the days of the week, best to worst. Does anyone have to wonder where Monday would fall on that list? Easily the most reviled day of the week, Monday is defined as “fun’s over, back to work.” Fortunately, Northend Tacoma’s bottle shop, taproom and restaurant, Peaks and Pints, is doing its part to give Monday a makeover with some Friday-style flair. Every month Peaks and Pints invites a craft brewery to create a three-hour soundtrack off our jukebox, pour its craft beer and award prizes during zany games. We call the Monday nights SudsPop. Mike Lay of No-Li Brewhouse will pair his Spokane brewery’s barrel-aged craft beer with Price Is Right/Let’s Make A Deal like games with sweet prizes. SudsPop equals no excuses.
7 P.M. POWER RANGERS: The story follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers. Blue Mouse Theatre, Tacoma
9 P.M. MONDAZED: Inspired by the lack of variety in dance music in Tacoma, Calvin Murphy and Omar Stokes founded Ocean Grooves Entertainment in January 1999. They started off strong that February with Monday night shows at the 6th & Proctor Bar & Grill (later became Hell’s Kitchen) and dedicated Mondays to underground dance music showcasing various DJs from Seattle, plus Tacoma favorites such as Donald Glaude and DJ dAb. Eighteen years later, Ocean Grooves Entertainment are still throwing DJ parties, including the new Mondazed and the revamped Airport Tavern on South Tacoma Way. DJ Ajax, Jonmarche and Donny D spin.
