Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Campfire Hop Roast

Share

Coffee: Is there anything it can’t do? From fueling all-nighters to banishing hangovers, or simply making mornings more bearable, this magical brewed elixir can even improve beers as you’ll discover at Peaks & Pints Hop Roast Coffee Beer Fest with Campfire Coffee Co. as part of our Tacoma Beer Week 2024 events. A “ten of us” 2023 honoree and Grammy-nominated rapper, Quincy Henry, and his business partner and wife, Whitni, own Campfire Coffee — a wood-fired coffee roaster and shop in Tacoma. Combining their love for great coffee with their passion for camping, the Henrys were inspired to roast coffee beans over a campfire, which creates a unique flavor profile. Campfire Coffee was born. Campfire Coffee will pour their coffees during Hop Roast beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Also, expect numerous coffee beers pouring from Peaks’ Western red cedar tap log, including Campfire Coffee’s Cold Brew, and an all-day coffee beer flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Campfire Hop Roast.

Here Today Bombe Abore Coffee ESB

4.2% ABV

A collaboration with Olympia Coffee Roasters, as well as Gray Kauffman, a queer and non-binary barista from Colorado, now in Seattle with a decade of experience in coffee, Here Today Brewing’s Bombe Abore Coffee ESB features a natural Ethiopian coffee “Bombe Abore” selected by Gray because of its chocolate backbone and berry-forward sweetness. In the beer the coffee shines in the aroma transitioning to a wonderfully balanced malt flavor along with fruit notes and a crisp, cold brew-esque finish.

Fort George Java the Hop V2 (2024)

6.5% ABV

Fort George Brewery brought back its Java the Hop coffee IPA for this year’s May The 4th Be With You celebrations. Together with our friends at Coava Coffee in Portland they hand selected two single-origin, masterfully roasted coffees to pair with two, masterfully grown hop varieties — version V2 features New Zealand 106 hops and Coava Kilenso coffee from Ethiopia for earthy, herbal, dank, and light roast notes.

Sig That’s So Doppio!

5.4% ABV

Sig Brewing’s That’s So Doppio! Is a wheated stout brewed with a smorgasbord of dark malts and kettle hopped with Magnum. After fermentation, head brewer Jeff Stokes cold conditions this stout on locally roasted Ethiopia Sidamo beans from Manifesto Coffee in Tacoma. The result is a vibrant coffee stout that’s light enough on the pallet for all year drinking, yet robust enough to satisfy the dark beer (or coffee) cravings.

AleSmith Barrel-Aged Vietnamese Coffee Speedway Stout

14.2% ABV

For those unfamiliar with AleSmith Brewing’s original Speedway Stout, it is best characterized by dominant chocolate and roasted malts supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally roasted coffee added to each batch brings out the beer’s dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Head Brewer Ryan Crisp and his team of creatives produce unique Speedway blends and variants that exemplify what makes their imperial stout so beloved, while incorporating complexities that rev up the tasting experience. This Vietnamese coffee version of Speedway Stout is, and continues to be, AleSmith’s most popular variation. Since 2012, they have been adding this blend of four Vietnamese coffees, known in Vietnam as cà phê sa đá, to their popular imperial stout. AleSmith traditionally brews gallons of Vietnamese Coffee with a phin-style filter that gently percolates water through ground coffee to make their Barrel-Aged Vietnamese Coffee Speedway Stout. The result is a chocolatey and bold-tasting coffee that perfectly complements the notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon barrel in this massive barrel-aged stout.

Oakshire 2024 Barrel-Aged C.R.E.A.M.

15.2% ABV

Oakshire Brewing’s 2024 iteration of C.R.E.A.M. is aged for nearly 18 months in Parker’s Heritage 15-Year Bourbon barrels. After blending, they add organic Vermont dark and strong maple syrup, along with a Lida Rivas coffee from Columbia. This coffee was procured and roasted by the brewery’s fellow Euguene, Oregon, pals, Farmers Union Coffee Roasters.
