Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Fort George Ales

Share

We received a bunch of Fort George Brewery ales; let’s pour another in-house flight from the Astoria, Oregon, brewery. Founded by brewers Jack Harris and Chris Nemlowill, the two combined their brewing expertise from previous Oregon coast gigs at Bill’s Tavern and Astoria Brewing Company to open Fort George Brewery in March 2007. Harris and Nemlowill drove their first 8.5-barrel brewhouse — nicknamed “Sweet Virginia” —from the East Coast and through a tornado to open a small pub in the Fort George Building on Duane Street in Astoria. In 2009, they bought almost the entire city block, including the Lovell Building, where they installed a 20-barrel commercial brewhouse — “Little Miss Texas” — followed by a neighboring $12.5 million production facility. With three facilities that span a downtown block and a repurposed cannery along Astoria’s waterfront, Fort George produced about 32,000 barrels — or just under 1 million gallons — of beer last year. Stop by Peaks & Pints for an in-house flight of Fort George ales – a flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Fort George Ales.

Fort George Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches

5.8% ABV

If you enjoy peaches, Fort George’s Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches mixed culture saison is aged for two years in oak barrels and conditioned on peaches – 2 pounds per barrel. That’s a lot of peaches.

Fort George Fort Boise 3.0

6.5% ABV

“Idaho, we really do consider you to be part of the Great Pacific Northwest,” states Fort George Brewery Fort Boise 3.0 hype. “The mountains, the rivers, the salmon, the sometimes uncomfortable but ultimately committed union of agriculture and culture-culture that makes this region mildly problematic but also lovable. And what better way to pay tribute to the symbolic marriage of our two great states of Oregon and Idaho… than beer. Fort Boise began as a dream in 2022. Version 3.0 is a Hazy IPA – another great collaboration between Fort George and the Boise Co-Op Market, made from Idaho-sourced ingredients, with Idaho in mind, in the great state of Oregon.”

Fort George Wojak Hopman

7% ABV

Former Wayfinder Beer Brewmaster Kevin Davey debuted the cold IPA in October 2018 — a West Coast IPA that showcased American hops, but one drier and cleaner than a typical IPA. Brewed with rice and corn in the grain bill, a lager strain of yeast, and dry-hopped toward the end of fermentation, his crisp Relapse IPA set the benchmark of the style. When Fort George decided to brew a cold IPA, they went to the source. Davey, now the co-owner of Heater Allen Brewing and Gold Dot Beer, was all in when Fort George asked if he’d like to collaborate on a cold iPA. Wojak Hopman is a cold IPA with a zany name that’s a collaboration with Gold Dot Beer of McMinnville, Oregon, combining the citrusy pop of an IPA with the crispness and clarity of a super dry lager.

Fort George Electric Surfboard

9% ABV

One of the most challenging things about surfing is finding the right waves to ride. Unfortunately, since nature dictates the waves, surfers don’t have full control over the ability to do this sport unless they use an electric-powered surfboard. For some surfers, this fact may come into play when trying to practice or race. Fort George’s version is a double IPA brewed with Apollo, Ekuanot, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops for piney hops, orange, strawberry, pineapple, and a hint of floral hop on the nose followed by flavors of candied orange, sweet berries, stone fruit, ripe melon, and a malty, sweet finish.

Fort George Fudge Sickles

13.15% ABV

Fort George loves stouts. They’re brewed hundreds of them. They even have an stout showcase called Festival of the Dark Arts every February. Fudge Sickles is a barrel-aged stout inspired by their undying love for the only thing they could afford off the ice cream truck back in the day. Conditioned on cocoa nibs, chocolate powder, and vanilla beans, Fudge Sickles is a bottomless abyss of cold, creamy chocolate with a bite of rich barrel flavor.
