It begins a couple weeks after you stop wearing white pants as the summer heat begins to ebb. There’s no official start date to the fresh hop season, which depends on the hop harvest. This year, he first of the fresh-hop beers came trickling in the first week of September, but soon there was a steady flow, and then, by the first of October, a flood from breweries released their fresh hop beers. Made from fresh-plucked, undried hops rushed straight from the field to the brewery, skipping the drying process they would usually undergo to preserve them. Fresh hops contain a lot more moisture than dried ones, and all that goes directly into the brew kettle and ultimately gives us a beer that’s more fragrant, potent, and lip-smackingly fresh. Georgetown Fresh Hop Dalton

When starting to brew experimental beers, all you must do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your hopping schedule. Expect the unexpected. Two, trying different techniques is absolutely necessary. And three, be nice. Georgetown Brewing‘s Dalton is their Bodhizafa’s close cousin, with the same ingredients, like Columbus, Citra, Mosaic and Chinook hops, but with a Road House roundhouse kick, if you know what we mean. The fresh hop version is brewed with fresh Mosaic hops from Tributary Hop Farms for more raw hop nectar character.
Fort George Fields of Green (Fresh Hop Citra 2024)

“We make Fields of Green when we feel like it and every batch is different,” states Fort George Brewery. “That way it’s always FRESH. But it’s never as FRESH as this year’s FRESH HOP Fields of Green. We managed to get our hands on a sizable quantity of Fresh Citra Hops from Loftus Ranches in Yakima and because of our vast IPA experience, we know exactly what to do with it. While the days grow shorter, the sky comes down lower, and the verdant hillsides of Astoria fade and fade to yellow and red, you can step out into these perfectly lush Fields of Green any time.” This fresh hop hazy IPA is creamy with grassy dank notes.
