Hitting the scene in the early 2010s, the New England-style India pale ale came to fame thanks to a Vermont brewery, The Alchemist, with their Heady Topper, an unfiltered double IPA that became a cult favorite. The beer was a success, and other New England breweries followed suit: namely Hill Farmstead Brewery, also in Vermont, along with Trillium Brewing Company and Tree House Brewing Co., both in Massachusetts. Call them hazy, New England, or Northeast style; they’re still all the rage — even if brewers and beer critics don’t totally dig hazy IPAs. The Brewers Association recognizes the New England IPA category for its competitions. Though loaded with hops, these small-batch brews tone down the bitterness by using milder varieties like Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy and adding them late in the brewing process. Unfiltered, these beers are meant to be drunk young and fresh. Today, Peaks & Pints offers a flight of hazy IPAs called Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Hazy Super Sunday to enjoy during the Super Bowl LIX.

Wander Single EyePA (El Dorado)
6.4% ABV
Wander Brewing first brewed El Dorado Single EyePA in 2017, so Wander asks you to please prepare yourself for a pent-up explosion of Yakima-grown candy fruit flavors with accents of passionfruit, mango, papaya, guava, and pineapple backed by a juicy satsuma nose. Think Jolly Ranchers in beer form.
Cloudburst Meet Cute IPA
6.8% ABV
“Oh hey, who are you? asks Cloudburst Brewing. “Hey everybody! We’d like to introduce you to HBC 1134, brought to you by Yakima Chief’s FWD program. HBC 1134 – these are drinkers of Cloudburst beer! This experimental hop was more intended for lighter beers – like pilsners, pales, other lagers – since it leans noble in its agronomics and aromatics…. BUT WE DECIDED TO PUT IT IN AN IPA ANYWAYS. For new hops at Cloudburst, it’s sink or swim in that beer style, after all. We paired it with – you guessed it – Citra hops just to see what it could do (for clarity: Citra makes up 40% of the hop bill, HBC1134 makes up 60%). The end result is SO MUCH CITRUS – navel orange, tangerine, lime peel, & lemon chiffon. Maybe this is the start of a long term relationship? If so, we hope you never forget your first taste.”
Equilibrium Kosmic Krush
8% ABV
Equilibrium Brewery’s Kosmic Krush imperial hazy IPA starts with a 2-row and mixed wheat base, an Idaho 7 whirlpool, and a 100 percent Krush (formerly known as HBC 586) dry hop. Aromas and notes of big, drippy mango lead right out of the gate with flavors of pineapple custard, cantaloupe, and creamy tropical sorbet finish.
Matchless Super Fluff
8.3% ABV
Sometimes, it’s best to let Matchless Brewing talk: “I’m not like regular All Fluff. I’m a Super Fluff. Super Fluff. I’m super fluffyyyy. Because it’s a very fluffy beer. The kind you don’t take home to mother. It tastes like pineapple and orange juice. Once you get it out the cooler. This beer is super fluffy now (this beer is Super Fluff). You’ll really love to taste it (because its Super Fluff). This beer’s all right. This beer’s all right… with me. It’s Super Fluff. Super Fluff. It’s super fluffy.”
Trap Door Blown Up
10% ABV
A continuation of Trap Door Brewing’s Glowed Up hazy IPA and Juiced Up hazy double IPA, Blown Up takes the haze to triple-level alcohol by volume. It features thick and juicy Citra 702, Citra Cryo, Citra, Galaxy, and Nelson Sauvin hops backed up by a big body with 30 percent wheat and oats. Expect the aroma of fresh pineapple, a strong presence of clementines, and big, juicy navel oranges—all accented with lovely resinous notes.
