Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Jester King

Share

There was a hot minute where the only place to access Jester King Brewery’s world-class beer was the outer reaches of the Far West Austin farmhouse brewery itself or Garden Path Fermentation in the beautiful Skagit Valley thanks to owners Ron Extract and Amber Watts ties to Jester King Brewery in Austin, Texas where Ron was a managing partner, and Amber was a utility player. But now we’re living in a golden age, baby, and thanks to Bottleworks manager Brandon Wiley and his pocket JesterPhone, Jester King is chilling at Bottleworks and Full Throttle Bottles in Seattle, as well as Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. Originally built on four acres of leased land in 2010, co-owners Jeff Stuffings and Michael Steffing’s brewery now occupies 60 acres, which also plays home to climbing walls, a growing farm, and pizza. Joshua Cockrell was hired to create beer labels, which have won awards at the World Beer Championships packaging competition. Craft beer culturalists had lumped Jester King’s sours with Russian River, Cantillon, Jolly Pumpkin, de Garde, and 3 Fonteinen. That’s fine and dandy, but tPeaks and Pints Beer Flight: Jester King won’t bust your cheeks.

Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Jester King

Jester King Nani?!

4.8% ABV

This Japanese-style rice lager is brewed with filtered Hill Country well water and fermented with brewers’ yeast. It is then lagered for 8 weeks for soft aromatics of jasmine rice, and Sorachi Ace hops for notes of French baguette, lemongrass, and green tea.

Jester King Hazy IPA

6.7% ABV

Jester King’s Hazy IPA has a base of Texas-grown malted barley, wheat from TexMalt, and water from the Lower Trinity Aquifer for 3 pounds per barrel of Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, and Sabro to work their citrus and stone fruit magic, supported by zesty lime, mango, peach, orange juice, apricot, and pine sap undertones.

Jester King Rex Machina

6.7% ABV

In collaboration with WeldWerks Brewing, Rex Machina’s juicy, hazy IPA is brewed with a base of Silver Star 2-Row malt from Blacklands Malt and a quarter ton of flaked and malted oats and wheat. It’s dry hopped with Citra, Citra Cryo, El Dorado, and El Dorado Cyro and finished with another dry hop of Nectaron and Motueka Hop Kief in the Brite beer tank for complex aromas of candied orange, lime, pear, overripe pineapple, and ground black pepper.

Are You Picking Up What I’m Putting Down?

8.5% ABV

A collaboration with Fonta Flora Brewery in North Carolina, this hazy double IPA is brewed with Citra American Noble in the boil, Citra Cryo in the whirlpool, knocked out onto Citra Dynaboost in the fermenter, dry hopped twice with Citra T90, and more Citra Cryo, then Citra Hyperboost added to the Brite beer tank right before packaging. Citra your ass down and enjoy this big citrus bomb on the nose, followed by more citrus, pineapple, and peach with light bitterness and citrus residual on the finish.

Jester King Phylactery Phactory

8.5% ABV

Crafted with northern and southern hemisphere hops, this hazy double IPA is packed with Freestyle Hops Mega Terps Blend on the hot side and Phantasm for boosted thiol precursors. It is also dry-hopped with hand-selected Citra and Simcoe T90, then enchanted with Nectaron Cryo and a final spell of Motueka Hop Kief. The result? It is an intensely tropical, citrusy, and peachy beer that rolls a nat 20 every time.
