Hops are one of Washington’s most prominent crops, and their farmers are powering the global brewing industry by growing almost 75 percent of the nation’s hop acreage in the state, almost all of which is in the Yakima Valley. Some craft breweries sit close to said hops, including Single Hill Brewing. In August 2016, Ty Paxton and Zach Turner opened Single Hill in an old JC Penney Tire Center in downtown Yakima. The two first met at a cider pressing party that a mutual friend hosted in 2013. Three years later, over pints at Bale Breaking Brewing, the two hatch the idea for a community-based brewery in a town dear to their hearts. Today, Peaks & Pints presents an in-house flight of Single Hill beer — a flight we call Peaks and Pints Single Hill Beer Flight.
Peaks and Pints Single Hill Beer Flight
Single Hill Quiet Legend
5.9% ABV
Like the owl hunter at night on Single Hill’s Quiet Legend can, this pale ale swoops down to sink its talons of Mosaic hops in for layers of citrus, tropical, and berry flavors coming through on top of a smooth and sippable Pilsner malt backbone.
Single Hill Cold Throw
6.5% ABV
Pale in color and restrained in bitterness, Single Hill’s Cold Throw is a modern West Coast IPA brewed with Amarillo, Ekuanot Cryo, and Mosaic Cryo hops for notes of mango, white grapefruit, and just a hint of dankness.
Single Hill Superheat
7.7% ABV
Superheat is the difference between a vapor’s temperature and its saturation temperature. It’s a key factor in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Single Hill’s Superheat is a double dry-hopped West Coast IPA with an explosive vapor of modern, dank Mosaic, Chinook, and Idaho 7 Cryo hops, plus an easy citrus throughline to a refreshing finish.
Single Hill Chiromancer
7.2% ABV
Single Hill is situated in downtown Yakima, along a bustling avenue just a few short miles from endless strands of hop farms, with a new location on the west side of the brewery-dense Ballard neighborhood in Seattle. Their smooth Baltic porter Chiromancer showcases Black malt’s rich chocolate and coffee flavors.
Single Hill Peated Reserve Overstory 2024
12.8% ABV
For their 2024 release, they blended imperial stout aged in one Peated American Single Malt barrel and one standard American Single Malt Barrel, combining rich oak and vanilla flavors with potent peat smoke character to produce a barrel-aged stout that is smooth on the palate but exploding with flavor.
