Peaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week Flight: Creative Cocktails

Share

Tacoma will be saturated with verse during Tacoma Beer Week 2024 thanks to Jackie Casella’s Creative Colloquy. She’ll gather brilliant South Sound writers to tell short stories, prose, or poetry, and then the floor will open for listeners to do the same — all while enjoying cocktail-themed beers and ciders at Peaks & Pints tonight. It’s no shocker that on his or her down time, brewers like a stiff cocktail — which has led to craft beers that taste like cocktails; what a vicious, delicious cycle this is. The base is beer (usually, but not always, a strong one), but then the brewer became a bartender, measuring in specific ingredients that seem like novelties until you taste how uncannily the final product resembles a cocktail. As mentioned, Peaks & Pints will tap cocktail-themed beer and cider today for our Tacoma Beer Week event with Creative Colloquy at 7 p.m. In addition, we’re offering an all-day flight of cocktail-themed beers, as well as cider-based cocktails, which we’re calling Peaks and Pints Tacoma beer Week Flight: Creative Cocktails. Happy Tacoma Beer Week! Let’s get lit.

Peaks and Pints Tacoma beer Week Flight: Creative Cocktails

Yonder Coulee

6.5% ABV

When the scents and colors of Mexico become pure flavor, it means you’re drinking Agua Fresca from Oaxaca. This popular Mexican drink can be made with a variety of ingredients such as fresh fruit, coconut, horchata, and chili liqueur mixed with mezcal. Inspired by the mezcal cocktails of Oaxaca, Yonder Cider’s Coulee brings notes of juicy tropical fruit and bright citrus with hints of coconut, subtle spice, and a light tannin finish.

Craftwell Cocktails Peach Mojito

10.5% ABV

Today, the Peaks & Pints bartenders will pour 10.5-percent cocktail — but the plotline thickens with apple wine, which is essentially apple juice that has gone through the same process as you would making wine. Craftwell Cocktails blends apple wine with real fruit and ingredients to recreate the cocktail experience. The Oregon-based team behind 2 Towns Ciderhouse created Craftwell Cocktails, prioritizing taste above all else. Craftwell’s Peach Mojito radiates with ripe, delectable West Coast peaches, a fresh garden mint high kick, and a snappy key lime finish.

Heathen Whiskey Sour

5.3% ABV

Heathen Brewing filled freshly used whiskey barrels from Eastside Distillery with their sour base and aged it a year. Next, they added sweet cherries and lemon zest and let it age even longer. The final product is a whiskey sour in a taster glass with tart, slight sweetness from the cherries, hint of lemon citrus, and strong notes of whiskey with subtle hints of oak.

Matchless Whiskey Peach

6.2% ABV

There’s something about peaches and whiskey that just go together. We can’t explain it, it’s magic. And magic in a can is even better. Matchless Brewing added whole Washington-grown peaches to our foudre-fermented blonde ale base and let them age together, for over a year, in Westward Whiskey barrels. Dry-bodied, with an upfront sour character, you’ll find notes of peach candy, oaky whiskey, peach Jolly Rancher, and fruit soda.

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed Old Fashioned

8.1% ABV

Developed to be a sophisticated mashup of an IPA and an iconic cocktail, Deschutes Brewery’s Fresh Squeezed Old Fashioned is an American strong ale that takes the “big citrus flavor” found in the brewery’s “hop-forward” Fresh Squeezed IPA and gives it an “Old Fashioned twist” by infusing it with “whiskey and oak from bourbon barrels and sweet orange peel.”
