Raised in Puyallup, Colin Lenfesty was a longtime homebrewer who worked his way into the Schooner EXACT Brewing team where he met sales guy Mike Murphy. In 2014, the two opened Holy Mountain in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood. Their oak-influenced and mixed fermentation beers, as well as hop-forward ales and lagers, instantly gained crowds and awards. During the pandemic, Murphy left Holy Mountain and the industry to open Outer Dark Coffee in Tacoma leaving Lenfesty to forge ahead brewing more hop-forward beers than sours and saisons. Forklift failures, whiskey wrestling, fly fishing and the quickest and most delicious entry into craft beer fame — hear how Lenfesty built Holy Mountain on the Grit & Grain Podcast at gritandgrainpodcast.com, or search your favorite podcast mediums, including Channel 253. In the meantime, stop by Peaks & Pints and sample some Holy Mountain beer in an in-house flight we’re calling Peaks & Pints Beer Flight: Holy Mountain Beer.
Peaks & Pints Beer Flight: Holy Mountain Beer
Holy Mountain The Key of the Mysteries
5.4% ABV
The Key of the Mysteries saison has a base of pilsner malt and spelt. Citra Noble and Saaz hops were added in the kettle as well as a sprinkle of our orange zest they use for their White Lodge wit. The star of the show, however, is the yeast. Highly versatile and attenuative, this strain of French origin produces aroma and flavors of pear, citrus, and cracked pepper. Dry, effervescent, and extremely drinkable, The Key of the Mysteries will remind you that not all beers need to punch you in the mouth.
Holy Mountain Cursed Relics
6% ABV
Cursed Relics West Coast Pilsner is brewed with pilsner malt, lightly hopped with Saphir and then dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic. This easy-drinking, hoppy pilsner is clean, crisp, aromatic and flavorful with a fluffy and light mouthfeel. Hop head or crispy aficionado, this has your name on it.
Holy Mountain The Scarlet Thread
4% ABV
The Scarlet Thread is Holy Mountain’s tribute to the světlý výčepní beers of Czechia, an extremely easy drinking pale lager beer. They brewed it using an extra pale bohemian pilsner malt and hopped in the kettle exclusively with Saaz hops, fermented cold with a delicate lager yeast and conditioned for six weeks for grainy notes and a dry finish.
Holy Mountain Invocation of Chaos
7.3% ABV
Invocation Of Chaos is a hazy IPA brewed using 2-Row and Pilsner malts, along with a combination of spelt, oats, and wheat. Holy Mountain hopped it in the kettle with a combination of Mosaic, Citra and Idaho 7, then fermented with one of their favorite hazy yeast blends. During fermentation they dry-hopped this beer with more Mosaic and Idaho 7 for bright, tropical fruit flavor.
Holy Mountain Shadowlifter
6.4% ABV
Holy Mountain’s oatmeal stout is brewed with a combination of American and British malts and a large portion of flaked oats. Shadowlifter is hopped with East Kent Golding and milk sugar is added into the kettle. Post fermentation, the Seattle brewery infuses this stout with a special blend of coffee from Elm Coffee Roasters in Seattle’s Pioneer Square. The result is dark chocolate ice cream and vanilla flavors with an amazing sweetened mocha coffee finish. This rich stout will add a chocolate note to the sweetness of the candied walnuts, offering added depth.
