SATURDAY, MAY 21 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
DJs + 7 Seas = party
Old-timey + Top Rung = Pickin’ with My Old Dog Scout
SPINNING 1022
When Oliver Doriss isn’t blowing glass, teaching glassblowing or curating his gallery, Fulcrum, you can catch him under the needle as DJ Broam, usually accompanied by a dance floor full of wild sweaty abandon. At 9:30 p.m., he’ll present the coolest “Vibe” of hip-hop, lounge, electro and jazz at 1022 South J with guest spinner Bilori.
PREFUNK: The Beatniks blast out ’60s classics including the Rolling Stones’ “Get Off Of My Cloud,” the Searchers’ “Needles and Pins,” Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride,” even Peter, Paul & Mary’s “Puff the Magic Dragon” and Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee.” From 4-10 p.m. Seattle’s most famous cover band will perform hits from the ’60s and ’70s at the Voyager School fundraiser at Zog’s on Fox Island. 7 Seas Brewing will pour five tasty brews.
ALBUM RELEASE PARTY
The Lowest Pair is a quirky, old-time, roots-influenced duet, featuring the harmonies of banjo pickin’ songsters Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee. They perform both traditional and original music, often nestling in somewhere between. The Pine Hearts, with their mandolin and banjo and guitar, perform bluegrass with some earth tones and a little nod towards simpler times. Both groups will showcase new albums at 9 p.m. in downtown Olympia joint Rhythm & Rye.
PREFUNK: Started in 2006 as a way for the Brewers Association to bring together its growing member base, American Craft Beer Week (May 16-22) has grown into a nationwide, seven-day extravaganza with breweries and craft beer bars all over tapping rare pours, organizing special events and finding their own imaginative ways to encourage fresh faces to join the fan fold, including Top Rung Brewing Co. The Lacey brewery celebrates ACBW from 2-9 p.m. with a special Randall beer, discount on beer flights and discount growler fills.
