SATURDAY, DEC. 17 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
The Swiss + Peaks and Pints = Alright!
Rhythm & Rye + Top Rung Brewing Co. = original holiday
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT
Strangely Alright is more than all right — the band is awesome. Its music is fun, timeless and real. Fronted by longtime Tacoma musician Regan Lane (Baby Knockors, Strypes, Groovy Times in Babylon, BrokenNess), take the Beatles and Super Furry Animals sprinkled it with some Bowie, Traveling Wilburys and Elvis Costello and add confessional lyrics a la John Lennon and Bob Dylan and you have the power pop band Strangely Alright. The band performs with Trees & Timber and Vanilla at 9 p.m. in The Swiss Restaurant and Pub.
PREFUNK: pFriem Family Brewers grabbed the American Revelation – Fermentis Trophy for their Super Saison at the international 2016 Brussels Beer Challenge. “As brewers, we have a deep love and affinity for the beers of Belgium, they inspire us and challenge us. It is an incredible honor to be awarded this American Revelation award for our Super Saison in the Brussels Beer Challenge. For pFriem to be awarded best of show for American entries with a Belgian inspired beer is a humbling achievement,” co-founder/brewmaster Josh Pfriem told Beer Connoisseur magazine. pFriem’s Super Saison (9.5%) sports a thick, meringue-like foamy head atop big aromas of pineapple and papaya. Savor these bright flavors while a subtle warming fills your tummy at Peaks and Pints today as this amazing craft beer is pouring from our Western red cedar tap log.
CHRISTMAS BURLESQUE
Olympia’s neo-burlesque and variety performance burlesque troupe Rock Candy does Christmas at 7:30 p.m. in Rhythm & Rye. Bringing a little holiday cheers to the downtown Olympia club with their inspired combination of vintage Bourbon St. striptease, show-stopping choreography and modern day vive, Rock Candy has also invited guest performers Ruby Rounds and Connor MacLoad from Portland and Vixen Valentine from Seattle. Keep an eye out for mistletoe.
PREFUNK: The original Christmas story is a narrative of hope and joy, but there’s no denying that a considerable amount of dread and hardship play into the story. After all, for the weary Joseph and Mary, there really was no room at the inn. That’s small potatoes, however, compared to the difficulties we face today when we run out of gift ideas. The secret to resolving this modern dilemma is understanding its cause, i.e., the fact that the mundane, or same-old-same-old just won’t do for certain friends and loved ones. What will do, on the other hand, falls into three gift categories: the original, the authentic, and the wildly unexpected — and we know where to find them. Top Rung Brewing Company. Indeed, the Lacey brewery has invited vendors to set up shop from noon to 4 p.m. Grab a pint of Three Sixty Red or My Dog Scout Stout and browse the goods from Arbonne, Songbird, Rodan & Fields, Beads & Beauty Counter, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Nikki Leigh Adore, Beach Body, Lula Roe, Travel Photography, Scentsy and others.
