Before the gates opened for day two of the Washington Brewers Festival at Marymoor Park in Redmond today, Specialty Competitions LLC and the Washington Beer Commission announce the winners of the fifth annual Washington Beer Awards. South Sound breweries grabbed 32 medals at 2017 Washington Beer Awards.
This year’s competition included 1,207 entries from 165 different brewing companies in 64 categories, which were evaluated in a blind format using the Brewers Association Style Guidelines by panels of trained beer judges
Three special awards, the Small, Mid-Sized and Large Breweries of the Year, were presented to breweries that won numerous medals in many categories.
5 Rights Brewing Company in Marysville took home the Small Brewery of the Year by placing well in two categories. Tacoma’s E-9 Brewery, once again, won the Mid-Size Brewery of the Year with a fist-full of medals, including three gold medals. Chuckanut Brewery out of Bellingham won the Large Brewery of the Year with eight medals including three gold medals. E-9 Brewery also grabbed Best Washington Agricultural Product Inspired Beer for the second year in a row for their Wild Cherry ale. Hellbent Brewing in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood won Best Washington Malt Beer for its Homegrown Pale Ale. A complete list of 2017 Washington Beer Awards winners can be found here.
