SUNDAY, JULY 3 2016: South Sound events + craft beer
Remember DJ Darrin + Coxswain Stout = pouring one out
Foam Fest 13 + Sunday Sampler = Euro Party
SPINNIN’ IN THE SKY
Darrin Hugh Maitland-Nemec, 40, has left this world and his fellow DJ friends are celebrating his life at “Horizon: A Celebration of Life for Darrin Nemec” in The Swiss. DJ Darrin was a lover of all music, skater of boards, spinner of vinyl and a blower of glass. He’s now spinnin’ in the sky. Join DJs Rob U, dAb, Daron, Omar and Alter8nrg at 7 p.m. for a free show with raffle proceeds and donations benefiting Nemec’s family.
PREFUNK: Dunagan Brewing Co. in downtown Tacoma has quickly become the South Sound’s Nitro Stout central. And owner/head brewer Jesse Dunagan has nailed it again with his Coxswain Stout. He’s taken several wheat grains, oats and a significant amount of rye malt, which adds some dryness to the beer and helps bring out some of the smoky flavor in the finish. … That’s right, smoke. The Coxswain’s smoky character comes from 50 percent of the beer’s malt bill being smoked by heat from a cherrywood fire. It’s freakin’ tasty.
FOAM FEST 13
Jazzbones has a special treat for you, and it’s gonna be all over the dance floor. One word, four letters, starts with “F,” the next letter is a vowel, and the last letter is a consonant. F-O-A-M! Bet you thought from our clues it was going to be an Anglo-Saxon word for fornication, huh? But trust us, foam is even better than that other word, since while that other word can imply fornication it can also be a curse uttered out of anger or disappointment. Foam, on the other hand, always produces good feelings! Jazzbones will pump out the foam tonight on the scantily-clad Jazzbones patrons during Foam Fest 13. You see, the ladies who dance at Jazzbones usually wear cocktail napkins for outfits. Tonight, they’ll wear even less. The first 20 women in bikinis get in free. When the clock strikes 9 p.m., that’s hour 21 to Euro-trashers, ha, kidding again, Euro-partiers — this dance floor will be inundated with 50,000 cubic feet of medium-grade-density rainbow foam for your grinding pleasure while DJs spin their magic. No dress code either. And remember, “what happens in the foam stays in the foam!”
PREFUNK: History was made when 51.9 percent of the United Kingdom voters from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland cast their vote to divorce their country from the European Union. The pound is at risk of fading from the top ranks of central-bank asset holdings following Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. In a perfect world, there would be only one form of currency, and that currency would be beer. Imagine, if you will, getting paid in kegs, bottles, and cans. Oh, how glorious that would be. But alas, that’s not the world we live in today, and because of that, we have beer. And in honor of this magic elixir, and with the eyes of the world on the EU, Pint Defiance tours the world today with its Sunday Sampler. Expect a flight of four-ounce pours of rye beer Pocketful Of Dollars brewed by Amager Bryghus in Kastrup, Denmark; Belgian Pale Ale Taras Boulba brewed by Brasserie de la Senne in Brussels, Belgium; Munich Helles Lager Benediktiner brewed by Licher Privatbrauerei in Lich, Germany; and St-Ambroise Apricot Wheat brewed by McAuslan Brewing in Montréal, QC, Canada.
