Lovers of crafted brew, rejoice: Day Two of Tacoma Beer Week is upon us. …
PARKWAY TAVERN: The Parkway Tavern invited all Tacoma breweries to bring their IPAs for a blind taste test beginning at 5 p.m. And by IPAs, the Parkway means straight up hoppy goodness, no adjuncts, dry-hopping OK with an ABV range of 5.9% to 7.9%. The taps will be numbered and patrons are encouraged to vote for their favorites from Tacoma Brewing Co., Harmon Brewing Co., Engine House No. 9, Pacific Brewing & Malting Co., Odd Otter Brewing Company, RAM Restaurant & Brewery, Narrows Brewing, Wingman Brewers Tacoma and 7 Seas Brewing Co. A trophy will be awarded at the end of the night, which will be displayed in the winner’s taproom until next year’s event. 5-8:30 p.m., no cover
THE RED HOT: “Dear 7 Seas Brewing Co., we could have sent you a birthday greeting on your seventh birthday and we could have started Google, but we didn’t. You are happy with Google so why not be happy with us being a little tardy in saying “Happy Birthday” and throwing you a party tonight complete with your 7th Anniversary Golden, 253 Pilsner, Rude Parrot IPA, Ballz Deep IIPA and cake. We love you 7 Seas!” — The Red Hot. 5 p.m. taps, 7 p.m. raffle, no cover
THE COPPER DOOR: Astoria’s Fort George Brewery has brewed 3-Way IPA since 2013, featuring two different craft brewery collaborators every year. This year, Jeremy Tofte of Melvin Brewing (Jackson Hole, Wyoming) and Tyler Brown of Barley Brown’s Beer (Baker City, Oregon) shared ideas and techniques with Chris Nemlowill of Fort George Brewery, and after four batches, presto, the 2016 Fort George 3-Way IPA. The result is an unfiltered brew, pale in appearance, combining a balanced juicy body, superb lacing, and every citrus fruit aroma you can imagine. The Copper Door hosts representations from Fort George, Melvin and Barley Brown’s and pours the 3-Way IPA from 5-7 p.m. In addition, the Stadium District bottle shop and taproom will have at least eight specialty and rare beers from all three breweries on tap. 6-9 p.m., no cover
THE CORNER BAR AKA HANKS: Indeed The Corner Bar is participating in Tacoma Beer Week. The Tacoma North Slope neighborhood bar salutes the goodness from San Diego hosting the likes of Port Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Green Flash, Alpine Brewing and Hop Concept with Stone Brewing and Ballast Point also in the house. Expect reps o’plenty and giveaways. 6-9 p.m., no cover
PUGET SOUND PIZZA: A young buck has taken ownership at Puget Sound Pizza, updated equipment and is ready to get his Tacoma Beer Week on. Tonight, Two Beers Brewing and Seattle Cider Company enter the house of pizza with a bunch of beers and ciders. 6 p.m., no cover
NORTH END SOCIAL CLUB: Skookum Brewery head brewer and owner Ron Walcher was raised in the Arlington/Stillaguamish Valley. He spent years practicing and experimenting with the art of brewing, seeing many failures and successes. Prior to opening the 10-barrel brewery in January 2007, Walcher attended a 6-month brewing school at the American Brewers Guild. In 2012, Skookum moved its tasting room and brewing operations to a larger facility across the street from the Arlington Municipal Airport. Tonight, Skookum take over the taps at the North End Social Club, pouring their Rye Porter, 360H! IPA, Ambers Hot Friend and Cameo-Barrel Aged Saison with Raspberry and Hibiscus. 6 p.m., no cover
PINT DEFIANCE: Gardner and Jeff Bert launched Alpha Distributing in the spring of 2011 focusing on small craft breweries that were either still handling distribution themselves or did not have a current distribution network. Pint Defiance will thank Team Alpha tonight, taping the company’s brands such as Boneyard Incredible Pulp Blood Orange Pale, Fat Head’s Head Hunter Topaz IPA, Altamont Shot Away IPA, Engine House No. 9 Pilsner, Triplehorn Folkvang Red Ale, Epic Sour Brainless on Peaches, De Garde Saison Premiere, Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout and Portland Cider Lemon Hop Cider. 5-7 p.m., no cover
