TACOMA PREFUNK MONDAY, JULY 9 2018: Blue Mountain Cider Rita Limely and Pulp fiction
PREFUNK: “Wasted away again in Margaritaville. …” You can practically picture Jimmy Buffett, who made it fashionable to fritter away sunny days, spending an idle July afternoon in Tacoma, belly-up to the Peaks and Pints bar. What? Indeed. We have Blue Mountain Cider’s Rita Limely on tap and the cider tastes like a freakin’ margarita. The sweet apple flavor is nicely balanced by the tart, zesty lime juice and a small hint of cinnamon.
5 P.M. PARKWAY RANDALL: When the Parkway Tavern announced tonight’s “Randall” beer would be Boneyard’s Incredible Pulp, it was immediately hailed as a masterpiece. The New York Times calls it a “triumphant, cleverly infusing journey,” and the Parkway’s infusion master Sean Jackson, with just 503 infusion nights to his name, has been dubbed the next great American infuser. We have no clue how the New York Times received word what fresh ingredients Jackson will add his infusion tube, but our guess it’s orange-y as the extra pale ale receives a huge punch from blood orange puree. Jackson might have said, “This beer has a citrus hop profile and pilsner malt platform that goes through secondary fermentation on blood orange.” The mild grain bill with citrus hops and blood orange really makes the extra pale pop. Imagine it after Jackson’s infusion.
7 P.M. ADRIFT: Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin star in Adrift, the true story of a couple of amateur boaters who sailed into a hurricane and then had to guide their battered craft to Hawaii through pure guesstimation and eyeballing. As in real life, it’s the wife who had to do most of the work. But hey, at least they didn’t end up in Anchorage! Catch the PG-13 flick at the Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma’s Proctor District.
