Hi, Swindler

TACOMA PREFUNK SATURDAY, NOV. 4 2017: Task Force Red Leader Celtic Ale and Swindler

PREFUNK: There is nothing better than kicking back on a Saturday afternoon with sandwiches, swapping war stories with friend, and knocking back a couple craft brews. But what if, when you separated from the military, you could make beer for a living? Jon Alexander and Colin Miller did. Thirty years ago, the duo brainstormed a craft beer brewery while serving with the 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). The idea of starting a brewery after they were done with their Army careers appealed to the two beer lovers. Joined by a few fellow veterans Jim Leise and Henry “Ike” Eisenbarth, they recently opened Task Force Brewing in Lakewood with a mission of “providing locally-sourced food and carefully-crafted beer to like-minded enthusiasts and burgeoning beer fans alike.” Task Force’s Red Leader Celtic Ale, a nod to Star Wars, pours from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. It’s part Irish red ale and part Scottish export with a rich, malty complexity, a hint of peat-smoked malt and some floral and caramel aromas from the Fuggles and Fantasia hops.

2-9 P.M. TACOMA BREWING ANNIVERSARY: Tacoma Brewing Co. celebrates its 5th anniversary today. Founder and head brewer Morgan Alexander will pour special craft beers including Anniversary Imperial Stout, Anniversary Imperial Coffee Stout, Anniversary Triple IPA, Cigar Box IPA (yes!) and his delicious 2015 Black Sun Bourbon Stout. The Rolling Crust will serve handmade wood-fired pizza too.

9 P.M. SWINDLER: You’ll clap spontaneously. You’ll perform the creepy white person dance. You’ll freak out and worry the stove was left on. You’ll be afraid of death and life. Jazz, funk and psychedelic rock band Swindler plays Doyle’s Public House tonight. At one point the cacophony of guitar/bass/piano/drum noodles will make you cry.
